May Hatch


May Hatch, a longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away at the age of 88 years on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the QEII Hospital. She was born in 1927 in Grosmont, Wales. May started her life’s journey at 14, serving Captain & Mrs. Pettiworth in Scotland. She served in the wrens at age 18 and continued working in Wales until she followed her husband to Canada where she joined him in Calgary. They continued moving north, finally settling in Grande Prairie where she raised her six children. May loved travelling, knitting and meeting her friends at Bingo. May was a foster parent for 25 years and babysat many of the neighborhood children. May was predeceased by her husband Leslie Hatch, sister Annie Carter, brothers Edgar Parry and John Parry, and great-grandson Ronald Mahaffey. She is survived by her six children, thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2:00pm at Christ Church Anglican in Grande Prairie (6610 Poplar Dr.). Interment will follow at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. 112th St.). Memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House – Grande Prairie (Box 22137 RPO Southview, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 6X1).
