Melonie Crerar

Melonie Diana Crerar, resident of the County of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 4, 2015. Mel was born in Grande Prairie to Thelma and Ed Crerar on June 21, 1963. She was the youngest of 4 girls: Sonja, Leslie and Jan. Mel was raised east of Grande Prairie on her maternal grandparents homestead, George and Annie Small. Mel’s love of nature, horses, fishing and family evolved from birth. From a young age Mel worked alongside her parents and siblings developing a strong work ethic and a great compassion to help those in need. Mel attended school in Grande Prairie, Harry Balfour and the Composite High. From an early age Mel was found most often on the back of a horse. She started as a jockey at a very young age and continued to have a profound impact on the horse community. She embraced fishing and hunting as a natural way of life. Mel experienced the world but her heart and home remained in Grande Prairie. Mel’s most proud accomplishment was her family. Husband Terry and two beautiful children Landon and Mia. Family brought Mel the greatest joy, supporting her children in their sports and hobbies is where you would find her. Mel truly loved life, her zest and drive to live in truth, with high moral standards made her a breath of fresh air to all those blessed to have known her. Mel’s honesty and integrity will be forever remembered as her greatest trait. Mel will be greatly missed by her husband Terry Cook, son Landon, daughter Mia, step-children Candace and Conrad, mother Thelma Crerar, sister Leslie (Kevin) Brooks, nephew Kyle, niece LeeAnn (Travis), great-niece Brooklynn, sister Jan Crerar, and niece Teshah Kosowan; as well as many extended family and close friends Char Wolfe, Shelly Alstad, Heidi Unger and Joke Turk.
