In Loving Memory Of

Cecil Baerg

Cycil (Cec) David Baerg, age 73, of Grande Prairie, AB passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Cec was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on May 17, 1942 to David and Elfrieda Baerg of Mennon, SK. The Baerg family moved to Dalmeny where Cycil attended Dalmeny High School and met his future sweetheart Edith Schultz. After high school they attended Bible School at Caronport, SK. They were married on June 25, 1965 and built their family of five by adding three children, Myron “Digger”, Tracy and Nolan. They lived in Dalmeny until 1980 when Cec moved them all to Grande Prairie. As a young man, Cec loved all sports and played many. He played fastball for the Dalmeny Diamonds in Saskatoon. He enjoyed playing and coaching hockey in several small Saskatchewan towns. Cec Snowmobiled, skied the river hills, even breaking a leg while skiing one of them. In Grande Prairie he played OldTimers Hockey and went quadding in the mountains. Later, he bought a motorcycle that brought him a lot of enjoyment. Cec got great joy from being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and anything that kept him busy and with his friends. In later years, curling and golf took up a lot of his free time. Recently, he renewed his interest in horseback riding, an activity he enjoyed as a young man, even attending horse camp in the mountains several times. When he wasn’t busy outdoors he watched the Oilers and the Riders live or on t.v. To provide for his family, Cec worked many jobs, from gravel truck driver to managing a high rise complex. He was great at meeting strangers and finding out how they were friends of friends or related in some convoluted way. His life was one great circle of friends which made him a born salesman. He worked selling everything from safety equipment to fasteners finally ending up in Real Estate. Cec retired from selling real estate in 2014. To keep himself busy during retirement, he joined the team at Oliver’s Funeral Home as a pair of helping hands. Cycil loved his wife so much that he sold his motorcycle to buy her a fifth wheel so they could golf and calm together. They also spent time traveling to Palm Springs in the winter to enjoy the sun and get some golfing in. In 2014, by the grace of God, Cec was able to beat prostate cancer. Cycil became a born again believer early in life. He loved working with the kids in Boy’s Brigade. With his charismatic personality he enjoyed working as an usher. Cec loved meeting new people in church and anywhere they could be found. Over the years, Cec served as a leader of care groups and enjoyed his Thursday morning men’s prayer group. Two years ago he introduced one of his friends and former co-workers to the Lord before he passed away. It was an experience Cec cherished. Today they are in heaven together. Cycil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Cycil died doing something he loved. He will be sorely missed, but he died with his boots on. Cec is survived by his wife Edith of 50 years, his son Digger “Myron” (Wanda), his daughter Tracy (Griff) Francis, and his son Nolan; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; mother Elfrieda and sister Deanna (Art) Block. Cec joins his brother Phillip, his father David and his sister Sandra in heaven. There will be a viewing at Oliver''s Funeral Home on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 7:00pm. Interment will be on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 11:00am at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St.). A Memorial Service will be held for all on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 3:00pm at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 102 St.).
