In Loving Memory Of

Arthur (Wes) Murphy


Murphy, (Wes) Arthur resident of Grande Prairie died suddenly unexpectedly from complications from a heart attack on June 19, 2015 in Edmonton in the U of A hospital at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Centre at the age of 83 just short of his 84th birthday. Wes was born June 25, 1931 at home near Sexsmith AB. He grew up on his family farm at Westvale near Wanham and attended Westvale County school as a child. He met Dorothy his wife of 62 years in Grande Prairie where he went into sales and then into real estate where he spent 50 years of his career. Wes was a people person, honest and generous with his time and talents. He served his community by offering business advice and mentorship in real estate and he also was involved in numerous real estate developments over the years in Grande Prairie. He retired at the age of 82, because work was his life passion. He continued to work through his retirement as a consultant by generously helping others with his expertise. He also enjoyed spending time at the farm and always pitched in to help if required. He operated some of the farm equipment, but loved operating a cat and clearing the land. Wes was known for being cheerful, positive, energetic and always took the time to help people. He was honest and true to his word doing his best and making every effort to instil trust in his clients throughout his many years in the business industry. Having spent many years in Grande Prairie and area Wes was well known and loved by many people. In 1963 he launched Richmond Realty, a real estate office that later launched the Richmond Industrial Park. In the early 80''s he then purchased the Remax Franchise for Grande Prairie and then later Sutton Group One of his major accomplishments was becoming the catalyst and major force launching the Gateway Power Centre in Grande Prairie. He continued with his passion to focus on developing commercial property and was one of the contributors to changing the face of commercial business in Grande Prairie over the years. His pride was his wife and the well-being of his 6 children. He spent many hours connecting, advising, mentoring and coaching his children and grandchildren throughout their lives. Of all his life''s work, Wes cared most deeply for his family. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Dorothy of 62 years, 6 children and 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, 1st son - Arthur Murphy (Debbie) grandchildren Holly and Alex , 2nd son -Ellery Murphy (Candace) - grandchildren Coty, Ashley, Brittany, Jordon, daughter Darlene Murphy-McKnight (Jack) grandchildren Ryan, Michelle, Shannon, 4th son - Dale Murphy (Frances) grandchildren Megan, Heather & John, 5th son Blaine Murphy (Michele) grandchildren Brandon, Ashley & Brian, 6th son - Daniel Murphy (Elisa Hartman) grandchildren Matthew & Bryce. He will also be missed by Brent and Michael and his 19 great grandchildren; Carter, Lucas, Ethan, Noa, Olivia, Nolen, Chelsa, Payton, Quinn, Luke, Katen, Ginny, Kyler, Daiman, Lexie, Nevayha, Alivia, Tristen, Anthony. Wes was predeceased by his Mom & Dad and his sister. Dad, we will always love you and you will always remain in our hearts. Thanks for being our rock.
