In Loving Memory Of

Alice Ethelyn Thompson

Alice Ethelyn Thompson was born December 8, 1918 in McBain, Michigan and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the age of 96.

In April 1930, the family immigrated to Canada to farm near Elk Point, AB. In 1946 Alice married Vern Minard.  They moved to the Grimshaw area in 1960 to try farming.  They relocated to Edmonton in November, 1965 to operate a corner store. Some years after Vern’s death in 1966 and with some urging from her brother Paul, she purchased a home and settled in Nelson, BC. In 1983 Alice moved to Kelowna, BC. where she especially enjoyed travelling and taking bus tours with other seniors. It was there she met Fred Thompson and they were married in 1985. Fred passed away in 2007. A few years later, in 2010, she moved to Grande Prairie to be near family.

Alice was known as a person with “Spark”, and enjoyed excellent health until she fell and broke her hip this past July.  She was affectionately known as “Grandma” by many.

She was predeceased by Vern Minard and Fred Thompson; her parents, Jim and Grace Van Natter; and her four brothers: Kenneth, Elwood, Verl, and Paul.

Left to mourn her absence are four nieces and three nephews and their families, and extended family and friends.

Her family is grateful for the friendship extended to Alice by her church and the residents and staff of Pioneer Lodge, and also for the care given by the staff at the QEII Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the McLaurin Baptist Church in Grande Prairie (10913 107 Ave).

If desired, memorial donations in memory of Alice may be made to McLaurin Baptist Church for their children’s ministries (10913 107 Ave. Grande Prairie, AB T8V 7P9).
