In Loving Memory Of

Gustav Schneider

“Memories are perhaps the best gifts of all.”

It is with sadness, our family announces the passing of our Dad, on Sunday, October 25, 2015, just 6 days short of his 100th birthday. He passed peacefully in the Beaverlodge Hospital surrounded by his immediate family. Gustav was born on October 31, 1915, in Wetaskiwin, AB.

His joy was the farm: he spent most of his entire life toiling the soil, raising grain, and animals. His pride was the garden: he once raised a potato of 5 pounds. This ‘spud’ ranked large enough to be in all of the local newspapers. During his time on this earth, Dad worked for others to supplement the family farm: construction of bridges during the Second World War, one specifically, the Peace River Bridge at Taylor, BC. Many of the steel culverts and wooden bridges throughout the county were built by Dad, local farmers and sons of farmers.

Raising chickens for egg production and for hatching eggs was one of the main sources of income for this family. Many eggs were delivered door to door to ensure people who wanted fresh eggs had a source to go to. Cattle and hogs were pretty well “wall to wall” across Dad’s farmyard.

Dad was a lifetime member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and was married to Elonora Florence Mayer on December 20, 1943. This marriage brought forward five children: Alfred (Nina) Schneider, Ida (Erland) Frederiksen, Bill (Gail) Schneider, Phyllis (Dave) McGuffin and Victor Schneider.

Gustav is survived by 11 grandchildren: Sherry Schneider, Ursula McDougall, Greg Frederiksen, Carol Longmore, Jason Schneider, Terri Clear, Erin Smyth, Rogan McGuffin, Jennifer Kennedy, Lorraine McCoy and Gerald Krahn; 24 great-grandchildren: Tyke Longmore, Austyn Frederiksen, Owen Frederiksen, Corey Bolding, Craig Bolding, Brook Frederiksen, Brooklyn Longmore, Allie McDougall, Jessica McDougall, Sara Schneider, Lumin Smyth, Eastyn Frederiksen, Jessi Schneider, Jayden Schneider, Julia McCoy, Emmie McCoy, Jaxon Krahn, Kaitlyn Kennedy, Ethan Kennedy, Remington Kennedy, Abigail Kennedy, Cassandra Clear, Samantha Clear and Stephanie Clear; 2 great great-grandchildren Nixon Clear and Madison Clear; 2 brothers Ernie Schneider and Bobby Schneider; 3 sisters: Frieda Hart, Geraldine Clish and Doreen Rudge.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Elonora Florence on February 16, 2008; brothers: Clarence, Albert, Walter, Don and Doug; sisters: Margaret, Arlene, Matilda, Elsie, and Alma.

The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 2:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wembley, AB.

Viewing to take place at the church prior to the service.

Internment to take place in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
