In Loving Memory Of

Dr. Frank Stojan

It is with much sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Dr. Frank Joseph Stojan on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at his home in Grande Prairie from natural causes.

Frank J Stojan is survived and dearly loved by his wife of 71 years Doris; daughter Carol; 3 sons: Rick (Stan), Ron (Lillian), and Mike (Monica); and his 6 grandchildren: Dr. Darren (Cheryl) Beiko, Tara (Alastair) Luke, Tracey (Mace) Eliason, Dan (Amy) Stojan, Jeremy Stojan, Danielle (Adrian) Jay; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

Frank was predeceased by his father Louis and mother Bessie Stojan; brothers: Louis, Charlie (Lorraine), and Jerry (Irene): his son Gary; and his grandson David Stojan.

Dad was born in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia on February 21, 1925. His father, Louis, came to the Grande Prairie area in 1927 and was followed a year later by his wife and 4 sons in 1928. Louis brought his family to homestead at Goodfare and moved to Grande Prairie a few years later.

Dad took most of his schooling in Grande Prairie until the family moved to Trenton, ON. Dad met Mom while attending the Trenton High School. They were married in Trenton in 1946 with Dad in medical school at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON.

Dad served as a medical officer for the Canadian army in the Korean War. In 1960, after completing his 4-year surgical residency in Flint, Michigan, Dad returned to Grande Prairie with Mom and 5 kids to begin his medical practice. It was in this community where Dad, who routinely made evening house calls, built a reputation as a caring competent doctor and surgeon.

Aside from his medical practice, Dad had a large array of interests. As a teenager he became a lay-minister. He enjoyed most sports, participating in golf, hockey, boxing, high jumping, running, and hiking. He loved the outdoors and had many adventures as a goldminer, river boater, and prospector. Dad loved music and singing and could play the violin, guitar, and piano. He became a pilot and wrote about some of his harrowing close calls. In his retirement years he took to writing fiction and non-fiction, eventually publishing a novel called “Golden Encounter”.

Much respected and loved by his family and friends, he will be dearly missed by all, in particular his beloved wife Doris who will feel his absence the most as the last several years of his life were devoted to caring for her.

Please join us for a Celebration of his Life on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Throughout his life Dad contributed to numerous charities, so in lieu of flowers we would ask that a donation be made to a charity of your choice.

“We miss you Dad & Grandpa but we will carry you in our hearts forever.” With much love, your kids and grandkids.
