In Loving Memory Of

Elizabeth M. Ludbrook

With sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Marian Ludbrook on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at her residence in Burnaby, BC, at the age 102 years.

Betty was the only child of Franklin and Lucie Booth of Edmonton, AB. She showed exceptional musical talent from a very young age, winning many prizes with her clear soprano voice. She married the love of her life in 1939, promptly leaving the comforts of the city (Edmonton) for the Peace River District, and encountered some unexpected hardships of the day (i.e. Peace River Gumbo). Betty and Alf persevered and built a home on 106th Ave. in 1946 where they raised their family.

Particularly remembered in the Grande Prairie area, Betty and Alf established Ludbrook’s Spice of Variety on Richmond Avenue (now the site of Al’s News) from 1958 to 1979. Betty maintained the family home until 2005, when she moved to Burnaby. She was a longtime member of Christ Church Anglican and the Grande Prairie Sweet Adelines.

Beloved mother of two daughters: Joy (Fergus) Nash of Burnaby, BC, and Joanne (Stewart) Grant of Pointe Claire, QC; grandchildren: Kevin (Jane) Jones, Jonathan, Jenessa, and Lia Grant; and great-grandchildren Alanna Crawford and Liam Jones.

She was predeceased by her husband Alfred William (1989) and their son John Franklin (1995).

The family thanks the Staff of Normanna Retirement Home for their extraordinary loving care and support over the past few months.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Betty’s Life on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11:00am, at Christ Church Anglican in Grande Prairie (6610 Poplar Drive). Refreshments to follow in Speke Hall at the church.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may make a memorial donation to a charity of one’s choice.
