In Loving Memory Of

William Frank Marston

August 25, 1914 - July 24, 2011

Bill Marston passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, Alberta at the age of 96. Bill was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After his education, Bill moved west to Alberta. Bill and Shirley met in 1948 and lived for many years in Mayerthorpe. Bill had a varied career. He worked several years as a power line construction worker and foreman in various parts of the province. Bill and his crew installed the first twin pole power line between Medicine Hat and Brooks, which was one of Bill’s most treasured accomplishments. Bill worked as a heavy equipment operator in Cadomin, Alberta and Norman Wells, N.W.T.. He also worked as a Watkins Products dealer in the Mayerthorpe area. Bill finished his career as a condominium manager in both Fox Creek and in Edmonton, retiring in 1983. Upon retirement, Bill moved to Medicine Hat with his wife Shirley where they both enjoyed the community, friends and neighbors. Bill was a skilled pool player and enjoyed many hours playing various pool games with his friends, both during his working years and retirement. Bill and Shirley loved to travel, and enjoyed trips across Canada and Australia. They were also able to travel extensively in the United States. They went on several cruises and particularly enjoyed Costa Rica. Bill is survived by his loving wife Ellen (Shirley), his youngest sister Margaret (Prince George), daughters Ellen (Kelowna), Alice (Steve of Okanagan Centre), Judy (Grande Prairie), Daphne (Dave of Winfield), and Velda (Neil of Fox Creek), as well as sons Darryl (Bonnie of Calgary), Laurie (Marian of Coaldale) and Leslie (Toni of Edmonton). In addition, there are 16 grand children and 14 great grand children. All of his family will greatly miss him. Bill was a loving, caring husband and a wonderful father to all his children, grand children, and great grand children. At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to a children’s hospital of one’s choice.
