Roman Leo Bauman


March 7, 1918 - September 22, 2011

 

Mr. Roman Bauman, resident of Clairmont, Alberta for 49 years and formerly of St. Benedict, SK, Cudworth, SK and Saskatoon, SK; passed away due to a vehicle accident at Clairmont, Alberta, on September 14, 2011. He was flown to the Royal Alexandra hospital in Edmonton, where he died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the age of 93 years. Roman was born in Wakaw, SK and grew up on a farm near Middle Lake, SK. In 1925, at the age of 7 years, his parents moved to a farm near St. Benedict, SK where he grew up until he went into the army with the Winnipeg Light Infantry Division in 1940. He married Viola Wedewer on November 18, 1942. He got out of the army in 1946, and they lived on a farm new Cudworth where they had seven children. They lived there until 1959 at which time they moved to Saskatoon, SK and they lived there until 1962. In 1962, at the end of June (the school year) the family moved to Grande Prairie to a farm by Clairmont where they resided. Viola passed away December 25, 2004. Roman stayed on the farm until he passed away. Roman and Viola Bauman celebrated their 62nd anniversary on November 18, 2004. He farmed all of his life. In Saskatoon, he worked for Boychuk Construction and he still farmed the Cudworth, SK farm until the family moved to the farm by Clairmont. His strength and energy will be greatly missed by his seven children and all of his grandchildren. Roman loved family gatherings with his children and grandchildren which he looked forward to often. He was a man of many talents, which he never had schooling for; he was a great mechanic, carpenter and had a great love of farming, his great love of music was with him his entire life. Roman was in a band at age 13 and from then on played in bands non-stop all his life. He continued to play with other bands in the Golden Age Center up to age 92 with his saxophone and banjo, and his favorite instrument, the accordion. Viola and Roman played in a band together from 1962 on until Viola passed away in 2004. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Pauline Bauman; one brother George and his wife Ida Bauman; one sister Jocelyn Jordan; and by 5 brothers in-law: Fred and Henry Wedewer, Henry DeMong, Fred Paquin and Delmar Conner; and three sisters in-law; Anna Marie DeMong, Barbara Paquin and Nora Conner. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his seven children and grandchildren; Deanna (Loren) Lester of Stony Plain, AB, Leon (Roberta) Bauman of Victoria, BC, Merv (Kaye) Bauman of Clairmont, AB, Sandra (Ray) Gauthier of Grimshaw, AB, Wayland (Jeanette) Bauman of Kelowna, BC, Charlotte Wardill of Grande Prairie, AB, Larry Bauman of Osoyoos, BC; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and a sister in-law Armin and Jeanette Bauman of Wakaw, SK; 4 sisters in-law and a brother in-law, Mildred Lieffers of Vancouver, BC, Dorothy and Oscar Renneberg of Cudworth, SK, Mrs. Dorothy Wedewer and Mrs. Suzie Wedewer of Cudworth, SK. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, September, 29, 2011 at 7:00pm at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel (10005
