John George Szwec


December 9, 1949 - May 7, 2012

 

John George Szwec, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away at the QEII Hospital on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the age of 62 years. John was born December 9, 1949 in Calgary, AB. He played hockey, was in International Racing Association, and involved with funny cars, rail racing, classic cars, golf, and motocross racing. He worked at Turbo in Calgary and transferred to Grande Prairie in 1988 and then worked in sales for a number of companies. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and having smokies on the fire. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Diane Mercier, the rest of his loving family: Lyne (Richard) Klassen, Pierre Mercier, Daniel Mercier; grandsons: Ashton, Evan, Josh, Teegan and Wyatt Klassen, Mary (Richard) Maksymich, Jamie (Shanon) Maksymich (Colton, Madison, Jordyn) Maksymich, Jenna (Lanny) Mathies, and many others. He was predeceased by his father Peter Szwec, mother Edna Szwec and his sister Nancy Szwec. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:00am at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta Lung Association or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
