Mona Aileen Heggelund

October 9, 1930 - June 14, 2012


Mona Aileen Heggelund (Kinvig) longtime resident of Beaverlodge, AB passed away at the Grande Prairie Care Center on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the age of 81 years. Mona was born the youngest of three girls on the family farm near Valhalla Centre AB to William and Christine Kinvig October 9, 1930. She attended school at Molde and Hythe, AB. On June 12, 1948, Mona married Levern Heggelund at the Lutheran Church in Valhalla Centre. They were blessed with five children. She was a devoted wife and mother all her life, making a home for her family in many places throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Mona enjoyed garage sales, bingo, and tickets of chance winning various items over the years. The highlight was a Chrysler PT Cruiser in the Cars for Christmas lottery in 2001. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 64 years, Levern; children Veronica (Gary) Brown, Grande Prairie; Lionel (Colleen), Prince George; Sharon (John) Koopmans, Kelowna; Aubrey (Esther), Sexsmith; Ashley (Dorothy), Beaverlodge; 10 grandchilden; 13 great grandchildren; sister and brother in-laws Muriel (Jim) Farley, Tulsa Oklahoma; Lila (Arnie) Kjemhus, Grande Prairie; Paul Zrobek, Edmonton; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents William and Christine Kinvig; sister and brother in-law Edith (Nook) McPherson; sister Wilma Zrobek; mother and father in-law Ingvart and Myrtle Heggelund and niece Maxine Ruby (Kinney). The family wishes to extend appreciation to 1W Mackenzie Place and the new Grande Prairie Care Centre for the care and attention given to Mona. A special bouquet goes to the GPCC staff in Emerson Court for the support shown to the family this past week. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Valhalla Lutheran Church in Valhalla Centre, AB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta or the Canadian Cancer Society.


I would like to express my sincerest sympathies to the Heggelund family. I got know Mona during her stay in the Short Stay Assessment Unit in Mackenzie Place. May you all find comfort in happier memories and in each other. Phyllis Wood, social worker
