In Loving Memory Of

Thomas Edwin Farnsworth

April 26, 1918 - June 15, 2012

Thomas Edwin Farnsworth, longtime resident of Valhalla Centre, Alberta, passed away peacefully in the Fairview Continuing Care Unit on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Tom was born on the family farm to Joe and Tilly Farnsworth, near LaGlace, Alberta on April 26, 1918. He attended Northfield and Blooming Valley schools before enlisting in the army and serving overseas in World War II for five years as an anti aircraft gunner. Tom married Gladys (Christenson) and together they raised 7 children on his homestead between LaGlace and Valhalla Centre. His love of horses provided many years of rodeo participation, trail riding, cattle drives, and big game guiding. Tom’s dedication to the community led him to serve 6 years as a County Councilor, numerous years on the Blooming Valley Hall Committee, and the County School Board. As a Life Member of the Hythe Legion, he devoted himself to their many projects and activities. He was particularly proud of marching in the Colour Guard for Remembrance Day parades. He spent many years with the R.E.A, Rural Crime Watch, and Old Timers Association, but was best known as the milk and potato delivery man in his community. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys; children Murray (Sylvia), Garry (Caroline), Judy (Doug), Allan (Cooki), Shar (Larry), Tanis (Dave), Shari (Darcy), and forever loved by his 16 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He is survived by sisters Lorna Rowland and Dorothy (Olaf) Hegland, and sisters in-law Janet and Francis. His love of life, good sense of humor, and generous heart will be remembered by his large extended family, friends, and all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Matilda and Joseph Holland, sisters Mary (Willem) van de Pol, Irene (Fred) Pillsworth, and Jean (Bob) Cramer, and brothers Daniel (Mildred), William, Douglas and John; as well as brother in-law Glen Rowland. A special thank you is extended to the staff of the Fairview Continuing Care Unit, for providing Tom with outstanding care and attention for the past 4 years. A memorial service will be held at the Hythe Legion Hall on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 4:00pm, officiated by Pastor Vern Begalke. Lunch and fellowship to follow. Private interment to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hythe Legion or the Fairview Continuing Care Unit.

There's so many fond memories of Tom. He has left a beautiful legacy. Sincerest condolences to Tom's family and loved ones.
