In Loving Memory Of

Garrett Roy Larson

February 13, 1981 - June 30, 2012

Garrett Roy Larson, resident of Grande Prairie, passed away suddenly in Grande Prairie on June 30, 2012 at the age of 31 years. He was born February 13, 1981 in Grande Prairie, the son of Roy and Georgie Larson. Garrett attended school in Rycroft, Spirit River, and finished high school in Grande Prairie while playing Junior Hockey with the Grande Prairie Storm. He then received a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Scholarship for hockey and played four years (2001-2005) at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. He graduated from University with a degree in Business Management. He returned to Grande Prairie to begin his career at the family business of Roy Larson Construction. On September 23, 2006 he began his family life by marrying Jennifer Ames. Soon after their first child was born, son Cohan Garrett (June 19, 2007), followed by daughter Chloe Lee (March 2, 2009), and most recently the addition of their daughter Lily Francis (June 2, 2012). It was Garrett’s dream in life to work for the family business while beginning a family of his own. Garrett had advanced to Operations Manager with Roy Larson Construction, Division of Petrowest. He was also pursuing his passion of flying airplanes and had recently acquired his twin engine IFR rating and float plane rating. Above all Garrett was a strong family man while managing to balance all other loves of life which included golf, hockey, fishing, and many other outdoor activities. Garrett was on the Board of Directors at the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club and had played Senior Hockey with the Grande Prairie A’s. He will be sadly missed by his wife Jennifer and three children, Cohan, Chloe, and Lily; his parents Roy and Georgie, sister Stacey Hanzel and husband Jay, their daughters Bree and Paige. He will also be missed by Mother/Father-in-law Danny and Donna Ames, sister-in-law Holly Kyle and husband Brady, along with their children Tristan and Quinn, along with numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his Grandmother, Lillian McBean, Uncle Lowell Larson and Jennifer’s Grandfather Frank Redwood. Funeral service will be held at St. Joesph’s Catholic Church (10404-102 Street, Grande Prairie) on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, an Educational Trust Fund is being set up at ScotiaMcLeod for Garrett and Jennifer's children. Please contact Curtis Tipler directly at 780-513-3505.

The world is less one great young man. Lars was always a pleasure to be with and I was in awe of his leadership, loyalty and reserve while he was a student-athlete at SHU. He was the model and they broke the mold when he was born. God has a beautiful angel in his mist. My condolences to his family, wife and cildren.

I was so very sorry to learn about Garrett's sudden passing. I know I'm speaking for the entire Sacred Heart University Athletics Family in expressing our deepest sympathy. Garrett was a wonderful credit to the University, not just because he played hockey so well, but more so because he was a gentleman and class act in every way. His legacy will always be treasured by all of us at the University. C. Donald Cook, Executive Director of Athletics, Sacred Heart University

I was very saddened and shocked to hear of Garrett's sudden passing. I grew up playing hockey and going to school with Garrett. I had'nt spoke with him for a long time but charished our camping/fishing trips to Firth lake, and the Murray River as kids. Garrett was a supremely confident and hilarious friend, that most everybody wanted to be around. I'll never forget You GL.
