In Loving Memory Of

Louanne Marie Pratch

August 24, 1949 - August 8, 2012

Louanne Marie Pratch, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sibling, and friend to so many, left this earth peacefully on August 8, 2012 at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, after a courageous battle with brain cancer, at the age of 62. Louanne was born on August 24, 1949 in Stettler, Alberta to parents Bud and Marie Kerl. She grew up on a farm along with six other siblings: Scott, Wendy, Patti, Tom, John, and Tracy. She attended public school in Stettler and then on to the University of Alberta, where she obtained her Bachelor of Education degree. During this time she met Ken Pratch who was also pursuing a teaching degree, and they were married on August 15, 1970. Together, they began their teaching careers in St. Paul, Alberta, the same year. Louanne continued to teach all of her life, including moves to Kelowna BC, Prince George BC, and finally Grande Prairie for the past 28 years. During this time she was blessed with 2 sons, Greg and Geoff, to whom she devoted so much love and attention along with her career. Louanne loved her teaching work both in the classroom and as a coach in school sports. She also loved her association with her colleagues at work and brought many fun times into the staffroom. She enjoyed sports in general for herself and loved to follow her sons pursuits in this area as well. Louanne also had a passion for travel, which took her to many places around the world. She loved spending time with her family so much. Her sons were everything to her, as were her new daughters in marriage, Wendy and Monic. She also cherished the love of her granddaughters Hailey and Avery. Louanne is survived, and so sadly missed by Ken, her loving husband of 41 years, her sons Greg (Monic) Pratch of Kelowna, BC, and Geoff (Wendy) Pratch of Calgary, AB, her granddaughters Hailey and Avery Pratch of Calgary, AB, her mother Marie Kerl (age 88) of Lac La Biche, and her siblings Scott (Lorraina) Kerl of San Jose Del Cabo Mexico, Wendy (Bernie) Kirchmayer of Lethbridge, AB, Patti (Dale) Matz of Winfield BC, Tom Kerl of Stettler, AB, John (Laurel) Kerl of Grande Prairie, AB, and Tracy (Eric) Smith of Lac La Biche, AB. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to name. Louanne was predeceased by her father Bud in 1980. A prayer service for Louanne, will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 7:00pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. There will be no interment following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada or Haying in 30’s Cancer Support Society (Box 35 Mallaig, AB, T0A 2K0

I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Pratch. Her and her husband both taught me in junior high school and I always appreciated her kindness when I came to her for help or just needed someone to talk to. I had a very ruff time through junior high and Mr. and Mrs. Pratch were some of the most important teachers in my life. They may not have realized it at the time but they made a big difference in my life by just being the caring and kind people they are. You are all in my prayers and I will always keep her alive in my heart by remembering what an incredible person she was.

It was with much sadness that we heard of the passing of Mrs. Pratch. My kids loved her as a teacher and always spoke so fondly of her. One of my daughters is also battling a brain tumour. Our hearts and prayers are with all the family.

cIt breaks my heart knowing what you are going through and wishing I could take away your pain and sorrow. Life brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, the smile fades, but the memories live on forever. Louanne was an amazing woman as I can see her in each of you. She is gone from our sight, but never our memories. Gone from our touch, but never our hearts. The Farrants will be forever greatful to have met such a wonderful lady and she will forever be apart of us. Our hearts go out to you in this time of sorrow.

My heart is saddened when I heard from friends that Louanne has passed. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to be her student, athlete, and even a coworker at times. She has left a positive imprint in my life and it is because of amazing teachers like her that I love teaching now. I know her legacy will live on in the hearts of many as it does in mine.

Mr Pratch, my deepest sympathy to you & all of Mrs. Pratch's family/ friends. I cherish many happy memories of having Mrs. Pratch in grade 6 for my homeroom teacher at Racette. I LOVED her! She was one of my all-time fave teachers and for sure my favourite phys.ed teacher!I can still see her clearly in her blue Adidas track suit smiling brightly teaching in the gym. I also enjoyed extra-curricular activities that she was part of. She was a warm & fun person. I will also remember our camping trips to local lakes many weekends with other "teacher" families - good times made better with her presence. Know my thoughts & prayers are with you as you grieve your huge loss. I hope your own happy memories bring some peace to your grieving heart. HUGS, Suzanne
