August 13, 1943 - August 6, 2012

Donald Arthur Dixon longtime resident of Beaverlodge, Alberta passed away at Edmonton, Alberta on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the age of 68 years. Don was born on August 13, 1943 in Peace River, Alberta to Arthur and Annie Dixon. He grew up and went to school in Beaverlodge where he met, LaVerne Ray, and they were married in 1961. That year, they moved to Edmonton where Don went to the University of Alberta and became a teacher. During this time their two children, Beverly and Kelly, were born. Don began his teaching career in Sexsmith and finished in Beaverlodge after nine and-a-half years. He then went into the Real Estate and Development Business followed by many other business endeavors. In 1996, Don and LaVerne bought the Beaverlodge Tavern and he continued to build spec houses with his son until his death. Don enjoyed many hobbies and activities over the years including stock car racing, skidooing, dune buggying, camping, river boating, was a strong supporter of local hockey teams, especially the Beaverlodge 77’s, and was involved in town council. He especially enjoyed time with family and friends and was as avid storyteller. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 50 years, LaVerne Dixon, daughter Beverly Dixon (Eric Ehrman), son Kelly (Brenda) Dixon, grandchildren: Darby (Charly) DeSchipper, Stacey (Ryan) Korzenowski, Danielle and Nicole Dixon and great-grandchildren: Sadie and Cameron DeSchipper, Kyler and Kaylin Korzenowski. He was predeceased by his father Art Dixon, mother Annie Dixon, and his sister Elaine Dixon. The funeral will be held at the Beaverlodge Alliance Church in Beaverlodge on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beaverlodge Hospital.

LaVerne and family, Sorry I was unable to attend the funeral, just watched the video and was reminded of the good times and adventures that our families have had. Let the memories and good times help you through these difficult times. Don will be missed by many.

We wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to all of Don's family. Due to distance we will not be able to be with you, but we surely will cherish the memories of the visits we were able to enjoy with Don when we were visiting Beaverlodge..

My heart goes out to everyone in the family. Don was my principal in Wembley with P.J.Thompson. I also enjoyed a visit with him when he owned the Beaverlodge Hotel. He always had good things to say around me & could make us laugh with his wit & jokes. I have e-mailed a bunch of his past students from Wembley who work all over the world so they know Don has left this world. He was popular in the school. I will remember all the great laughter he caused with his joking.

I just heard of the passing of Uncle Donnie. I have fond memories of him and your family from my summer trips to the north to visit the family. My deepest sympathy to the Dixon family. I know Donnie will be missed.
