In Loving Memory Of

John Albert Thiessen

June 12, 1923 - August 9, 2012

John Albert Thiessen of Grovedale went to meet his Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, August 9, 2012. John was born to Deidrich and Mary Thiessen of Schoenwiese, Manitoba on June 12, 1923. During John’s growing up years, the family moved several times, ultimately settling on a farm near Carman in 1943. John assisted with farm operations, eventually moving on to work as a mechanic at Laycock Motors in Carman. This paved the way for him to acquire journeyman status as a mechanic. John met Viola Friesen at the Carman Bergthaler Church and they began dating. They fell in love and were married on October 8, 1950. In 1966, John and Viola moved with their four daughters to Grande Prairie, Alberta where they built their own home. But John dreamed of living on the land, so in 1974 he and Viola bought a homestead southwest of Grande Prairie near Grovedale. Here they built a second new home, and John did some hobby grain farming while working fulltime as a journeyman carpenter. John grew up in a Christian home and over the years developed a deep love for God’s Word which he studied faithfully. He was an independent thinker with a dry sense of humor. He always had a supply of Juicy Fruit gum to share with his grandchildren. During Viola’s three year battle with cancer, he was an attentive, daily caregiver. John was predeceased by his wife Viola in 1982, his brother Frank Thiessen, and son in-law Harold Gustafson. He is survived by his daughters, Janet (Tim) VanNatter of Grovedale, Karen Gustafson of Grande Prairie, Hilary (Wally) Klassen of Saskatoon, SK, and Lorna Gould of Summerland, BC, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. The funeral service for John Thiessen will be held at the Westpointe Community Church in Grande Prairie, on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Hi Janet & Tim & families I know this is late, but we do send our condolences on the passing of your Dad/grandfather. Your family was in our thoughts especially on the funeral date, but we do know that he is in a much better state of health now. I'm sure your family appreciated the care he had with you & we continue to keep you in our prayers for the future.
