In Loving Memory Of

Donald Rene Payeur

January 2, 1936 - September 8, 2012

Donald Payer, longtime resident of Spirit River, and later of Edmonton, passed away at the Devonshire Care Centre in Edmonton, Alberta on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the age of 76 years. Don was born in Spirit River on January 2, 1936, the youngest of Leger and Marianne Payeur’s three children. Don worked at various locations in British Columbia and Alberta while with the Royal Bank. He returned to Spirit River to work at the Central Peace Hospital, where he met Sylvia Glowaski and they were married in October 1963. Don left the hospital to work as business manager of Dave Ross Equipment Ltd. until he retired. Don gave generously of his time and was very active in the community. His contributions were many: long-standing town council member, financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus, notary public, and on the founding board of the Grande Spirit Foundation. He was also instrumental in obtaining ambulance service in Spirit River, and volunteered with several clubs to offer his accounting services. Don and Sylvia enjoyed curling, dancing, travelling and playing bridge with their many friends. In 2005, Don moved to Edmonton and enjoyed many activities and welcomed visits from many new friends. Don will be dearly missed by his three children: Owen (Linda) Payeur, Donna (Brad) Buck and their children Taylor and Aaron; daughter Dianne (Dan Roper) Payeur; as well as his brother Dennis and sister Georgette Payeur. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Spirit River, with interment at the Spirit River Catholic Cemetery. All are welcomed to lunch at the Legion Hall in Spirit River. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Spirit River.

To the Entire Payeur Family, but especially to Georgette and Owen, My deepest sympathy on the passing of your brother and father. I had the opportunity on more than one occasion to speak to Don, and more recently to Georgette and to update each other on the most recent happenings both in Massachusetts and the Spririt River, Alberta area. I knew Don had a few issues but that he was doing pretty well, and comfortable. I can only offer my prayers and good thoughts and know that Don is in a beautiful place with his beloved wife and our great Payeur Family surrounded with love!
