It is January and it is cold and snowy. The kids are preparing to go back to school. Parents are getting ready to face the work weeks ahead without the anticipation of a break until spring. It can be dull and gray outside, unlike the similar picture of how some of us might feel inside. The blah’s can take an already hard season of grief and make it feel even more isolating and confusing. Add this to the pressure to make the New Year really be the year that your life is changed in some significant gesture of resolutions and determined goals and you may just want to give up, crawl back into your PJs and grieve and not come out this spring! Who could blame you really? If life worked like that then we wouldn’t need to do the work of grief. Grief work is hard work. It is intentional work. It is choosing to change work. It is necessary work so that you can have a healthy new normal (whatever that looks like to you).
If you would like to work through your grief in a small, intimate, supported group then there is hope for you to find the people who are going through a similar journey as you. Oliver’s Funeral Home and Essentials 2 Grief Transformation are offering three different grief group experiences starting on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 6:30 pm at Essential Cremations (10016 102 Ave. Grande Prairie, AB) to help you transform your grief journey. The first group offered is Understanding Grief and Loss. This is a basic 6-week small group that can help you understand what and why your grief is so strong and give you practical skills and tools to help you intentionally start healing and reconciling your grief journey. The second group will start on February 22, 2023. This group is to help support parents of grieving children. This group will give you a place to connect with other parents who are grieving with their children to encourage, support, and give you tools to help you sit with your child’s suffering. The third group will start on April 5, 2023. This group will be a support group for people who have lost their spouse. This is a unique type of grief in that the secondary losses are substantial for the survivor. This group will help you feel less isolated and you may find that you will connect with others who understand your journey. All three groups aim to help you transform your suffering into meaningful and purposeful intentional growth by engaging your grief and suffering where you are at and setting goals to reach your passions by honoring the losses and changes and integrating their memories into your future.
