Obituary For Agnes Sophie Bondarenko Smichura

Agnes Smichura passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 5:00am, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie.

Agnes was born in Sexsmith, AB, on October 21, 1931. There she met her husband John whom she married on June 4, 1949. They homesteaded in the Teepee Creek area where they raised their four sons on the farm. Mom never worked out, but the farm was her life. There she worked hard: big gardens and some cattle but mostly grain farming. Mom was able to stay on the farm until her passing. She will be sadly missed and remembered for her kindness and generosity.

Agnes leaves to mourn her three sons: James Smichura of Grande Prairie, Jerry (Esther) Smichura of Grande Prairie, and David Smichura of Teepee Creek; sister Marigold (Bob) Gorgichuk of Peace River; sisters in-law: Mary Smichura, and Olga Kosinski; niece Pat (Larry) Waye of Edmonton; nephew Fred (Pat) Hurlock of Bad Heart; many wonderful neighbours whom she loved much; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Helen and Nick Bondarenko; loving husband John Smichura (February 4, 2000); son Terry Smichura (April 19, 2008); brothers and sisters: Annie Hoy, Lily Johnson, Olga Reynolds, Alex Kabanuk, Edward Kabanuk, Henry Kabanuk, Martha Irvine, Sarah Paras, Elma Gordy, and Peter Bondarenko.

A Viewing will be held Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 6:00-9:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Interment will be held Monday, September 25, 2017, at 10:00am at the Teepee Creek Cemetery.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home. Lunch to follow.

All are welcome to the Viewing, Interment, and Service.
