Obituary For Alan James Laursen

It is with great sadness that the family of Alan James Laursen, resident of Wanham, AB, announce the passing of their father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, after a long battle with cancer, on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the age of 82 years.

Alan was born on August 24, 1938, in Pierceland, SK, the third child and first son born to Roy and Isabella Laursen. Alan’s siblings included: Evelyn, Connie, Ronald, Faye, Bud, Gary, Jim, Gene, Pat and Glen.

He was known for his many jokes and stories. Alan did volunteer work for the Wanham Plowing Match and the many fire departments where he lived. He enjoyed many activities, such as fishing, golfing, curling, hockey, gardening, farming his quarter section, and raising cows and bees.

Alan leaves behind his loving wife Gwen; daughters: Rhonda, Sandra, Brenda, Wendy and Richelle; step-children: Rhonda, Kevin and Carlin; grandchildren: Craig, Douglas, Cory, Gwen, Morganna, Michael, Matthew, Jessie, Canille, Jayme, Aly, Tikia; step-granddaughter Dakota; eleven great-grandchildren; as well as many family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Isabella; sisters Eve and Connie; brothers: Gary, Jim and Gene; and granddaughter Tyra.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a small invitation-only service will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home. A Livestream will be available to view on his obituary page on the Oliver’s Funeral Home website prior to the start of the service.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Pierceland, SK, where Alan was born and spent many summers and free time.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to all the staff at Prairie Lake Hospice in Grande Prairie, for their exceptional kindness, compassion and care in Alan’s final weeks and days; as well as to the lab staff at the Spirit River Hospital for their patience and tenderness through the many blood transfusions over the years.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society (#204, 10134 97 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7X6).

    Big Al; You are the Coolest Guy I know. I'm lucky to have you on my life. I want to Thank You for all the GRooVY advice you have given me.     My condolences to the Laursen family on Alan's passing. Alan was a great source of info on who in the agriculture community were looking for Newer vehicles. I always looked forward to stopping at the elevator for a visit and a coffee. A loss for the community, I am sure!
