Obituary For Alexander Potrebenko

Alex Potrebenko passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the age of 92 years, at Fairview Hospital with his family by his side.

Alex was born in Brestilok, Poland on December 10, 1927. He immigrated to Canada in 1939 with his parents Elisey and Stephanie, and his brothers John and Walter.

Alex and his family settled in the Silverwood area, south of Rycroft. Alex married Mary Milkovich on August 30, 1954 and they started their life together farming in Silverwood. Alex and Mary were married for 54 wonderful years before she passed away in 2009.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Alex leaves to mourn his sons: Fred (Valerie) and Dennis (Sherry); grandchildren: Dina Potrebenko, Scott (Crystal) Potrebenko, and Ginamaria Tassone; great-grandchildren: Ava Healey, Andrew Cyr. A.J. Potrebenko, and Bo Potrebenko; as well as numerous other family members.

Alex was predeceased by his parents Elisey and Stephania; brothers John and Walter; sister in-law Anne Potrebenko; wife Mary; brothers in-law: Louis, Joe, and John Milkovich; and nephews Harvey and Doug Potrebenko.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Interment to follow at Greenway Cemetery in Rycroft.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).
