Obituary For Allan Lock

Allan Arthur Lock, resident of the Beaverlodge, Alberta area passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Allan was born on February 2, 1931 in Grande Prairie, Alberta to Arthur and Olive Lock and was the eldest of five children. Allan was raised on the family farm near Beaverlodge in the Two Rivers District and attended the Two Rivers School. After finishing school Allan worked in the bush as a tree faller and also in sawmills, then in 1951 he started with the Research Station as a farm labourer, and later working with cereals and Illustration Stations, and spent 5 years at the McLennan Station.

On March 4, 1955 he married Elsie Farnquist. In 1960 they bought some land so Allan was able to spend more time at home and drove daily to the Research Station, eventually farming full time. Having no stock, Allan began carpenter work in the winters and received his Journeyman's carpenter certificate. Also driving log trucks in the winter of 1968-69. In 1971 he returned to the Research Station as a carpenter, and in 1972 was made foreman for the Forage and Crops Division. In 1976 they bought his father's farm and returned to full time farming. In 1981, Allan's son Garry joined Allan on the farm where Allan continued to farm and in later years remained involved to a certain degree to his last year of life.

Allan's passions in life were hunting, fishing and genealogy , but his greatest passion was music. He was a self taught musician, first learning by ear on a guitar in his youth and then learning to read music. He played many instruments. Acoustic guitar, dobro guitar, violin, mandolin, button accordion, harmonica and also played the trumpet for a short while with the Beaverlodge Band. His desire was that his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren would all learn to play music. He has certainly planted the seed for that. Allan's zest for life, humour and teasing will not be forgotten by family nor friends. He was loved by all.

Allan will be sadly missed by his loving wife Elsie of 63 years, and by his sons Garry and Bruce (Marlene). And will also be dearly missed by grandson Ed (Jodi) and their children Keenan, Trinity, Sierra, Stevan and Shaun; grandson Ryan (Kirby) and their daughter Charlee; grandson David (Nicole) and their children Ashlyn and Olivia. Allan also leaves to mourn his sisters, Betty Longson and Margaret (Wright) Bradshaw, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

Allan was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Olive Lock, his brothers Ronald and Norman, and his brother in-law Dalton Longson.

As requested by Allan, there will be no funeral. The family will have a private memorial service. Allan's final request was to celebrate his life with a jamboree sing-along amongst family and friends later this summer.

Our deepest sympathy to all the family ......... We really will cherish the memory of Allan teaching our 11 year old grand daughter to play the ukulele and sing along with him prior to his passing......She was very very thrilled to have this most wonderful opportunity to be able to jam with him one fine evening. Needless to say Allan was on cloud nine as well to see her take such joy and pride to play with such a musical and talented senior. The video made will be a definite keepsake to show to others which I am sure Allan had done before he was taken away..... God Bless
