Obituary For Alta Spaerman Ball
Alta Ball, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Fort McMurray and Grande Cache, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, at the age of 62 years.
Alta was born in the Assiniboia Hospital on September 2, 1955 to Ralph and Nora Spaerman. She lived her first few years of life in Mazenod, SK. The family moved to Wood Mountain, SK, where she lived till she graduated high school in 1973. She then moved to Edmonton to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at the University of Alberta. While in Edmonton, she met and married Dan Ball.
Alta had many careers though the years. They included Restaurant Front End Manager, Veterinary Assistant at Edmonton Race Track, Bank Teller, Lab Tech, Environmental Health and Safety, and lastly a Power Engineer which she completed in June 2016, at the age of 61 years. Her most important job, however, was being a mother, wife, grandmother, and her life-long journey to discover and grown in relationship with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Alta had a love of knowledge, and the digging to acquire the knowledge. She was athletic and could run, boy could she run! She was also strong-willed, and always fought for her beliefs and what she felt was right.
She loved spending time outside: sitting on her bench on the front lawn, running, or tending to her garden. She was also an avid antiquer and real-estate shopper. She window-shopped often or would just sit with a cup of coffee while she watched passers-by in malls, parks, etc.
Alta will be sadly missed by her husband Dan Ball; son Josiah Ball; daughter Jordana Ball; daughter in-law Kirsten; grandchildren Tauren and Lincoln Ball; mother Nora; sisters Donna and Twila; brothers Albert and John; sisters in-law Alice and Lorna; brothers in-law Less and Jim; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends across Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC.
She was predeceased by her father Ralph, brother Hebert, father in-law Ron, mother in-law Nina, sister in-law Margret, and granddaughter Willow.
Memorial donations may be made to Sorrentino’s Compassion House (10909 76 Ave., Edmonton, AB, T6G 0J6 www.compassionhouse.org ).

Lynda and I were saddened to read of Alta's passing. I know how ill she was, but she never complained about her difficulties when we texted each other this past winter. She was a strong woman who loved her family very much and we know she will be missed greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My condolences to your family. I had the privilege to meet and get to know Alta while working at Agrium. We sat and ate lunch together on most days and had many laughs and great conversations. She is one of those people you meet and never forget. I really admired and was inspired by her. How lucky you both are to have had a mom like her. Heaven has gained an extraordinary angel.
