It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Anna (Antkow) Stanton on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Grande Prairie Care Centre at the age of 82 years.

Anna was born to John and Stefanja Antkow on October 27, 1933 in Evansburg, Alberta.

Anna enjoyed the simple things in life. She enjoyed having her kids over for supper, playing card games, bowling, socializing and listening to country music on the radio or watching TV shows. She was a private woman who only confided in a few people whom she trusted with her feelings and her past. She valued her independence and walked everywhere to get everything done that she needed to get done.

In 2007, as Anna’s health began to fail, she moved from Dawson Creek, BC to Grande Prairie, AB to be closer to family members. She treasured the visits from her family members and took great joy in watching her grandson grow up. As dementia slowly overtook Anna’s mind, her body began to fail, but the disease never took from her the innocent and caring personality which we know to be our true mom. We had many beautiful visits where our mom was truly herself, loving and caring in her own way until the very end.

Anna leaves behind her 3 children: Derald Stanton (Tricia Grismer and Elysia Grismer), Randal Stanton (Patricia), and Sandra Stanton; and 2 grandchildren: Jamie Stanton and Brandon Stanton; brothers Mike Antkow, Peter Antkow, and Sam Antkow (Judy), and sister Tessie Cherniwchan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna is predeceased by her brothers Walter Antkow and Yorash Antkow.

A Celebration of Life for Anna will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Sexsmith Senior’s Centre (9702-97 Ave.).

The family would like to thank all the staff of the Grande Prairie Care Centre for all their support and kindness towards Anna who was entrusted to their care during her stay at the Centre.
