Obituary For Anne Florence Cluett

The family of Anne “Annie” Florence Cluett are saddened to announce that she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, while in Hospice Care in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 87 years.

Anne was born April 21, 1936, and was the third oldest daughter of Marcus and Minnie Hiscock of Winterton, NL.

Left to mourn her passing are her children: Tony (Christine), Bob, and Donna; her five grandchildren: Jason (Pam), Tracy, Jennifer, Julia (Jon), and Ty (Megan); her great-grandchildren who will certainly miss their Nanny: William, Victoria, Katherine, and Haisley.

Anne was pre-deceased by her son Jerry, husband Herman, son-in-law Loderick, brother Peter, sisters Myrtle and Joan, brothers-in-law Warwick, Willis, Mac, Chesley, and Bert.

Anne adored her family and was very close to her siblings and in-laws. Sister Liz and brothers Mark (Pats), Ralph (Ethel), and Gary (Mary Blanch) will remember their sister/sister-in-law with fondness. Anne remained close to Herman’s family upon his passing in 2010. She leaves behind sisters-in-law Almeda and Bella, and brothers-in-law Wilf (Yvonne), Horatio (Theresa), and Arthur (Ruth), as well as her late mother-in-law and father-in-law George and Florence Cluett who always held a special place in Anne’s heart.

Anne leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families. She was affectionately referred to as “Aunt Glitter”. Anne’s nephew and his family even named their dog “Annie” and she was very proud of this sweet gesture. Annie, the canine’s, photo was proudly on display in Anne’s living room.

Anne was an active member of the Salvation Army Church in Grande Prairie, and she thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Seniors Homes and bringing joy to all the residents, especially during the Christmas season.

For the last five years, Anne had been a resident of Wild Rose Manor. She loved living there and met many new friends. It was always easy for Anne to make friends and she always had time for a visit and a cup of tea. She entertained the residents of Wild Rose Manor by always dressing up in costumes for special occasions like she did for her grandchildren when they were little. We could always count on “Nan” to be dressed up as the Easter Bunny each Easter morning.

Anne had many close friends whom we truly appreciate for the love and support they provided to Anne over the years. There are too many people to list, but you know who you are. Life was certainly not easy for Anne and Herman when they suddenly lost their son Jerry in 2001. Anne’s friends were her pillar of support, especially when she was left to grieve the passing of her husband in 2010. We cannot thank you enough!

We are relieved Anne is no longer suffering, and is finally reunited with Herman and Jerry, and all her other family members and friends who have gone before her. It has been a very rough road for our family since 2001, but we will cherish all the memories, especially those that we made together as a family during our time in Tumbler Ridge, BC.

We would like to extend a sincere Thank you to ALL the staff at the Grande Prairie Hospital that cared for Anne during her 4 month stay. Anne was transferred to Hospice on August 25, 2023. She was very comfortable and happy to be in her new environment, and we are eternally grateful for the loving care that she was provided. It takes a very special person to take on this role and we appreciate everything the Hospice Staff did for Anne and continue to do for other patients.

Thank you to all the people who visited Anne while she was in the hospital and in Hospice. She/we could certainly feel the love from each one of you. Special thanks to Nola for visiting Anne on several occasions and helping her with energy healing. Special appreciation also goes to Captain Peter Kim and all of Anne’s fellow church members and the Hospice Chaplain who sang and prayed with Anne. You always brightened her day.

A Graveside burial will be held Friday, September 15, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St.). All of Anne’s friends are welcome to join the family. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave.)

A livestream of the graveside and service will be available on Anne's obituary on the Oliver’s Funeral Home website. Please note the graveside link will take you to Facebook as it is being streamed Facebook live.

In lieu of flowers, Anne’s wishes were for donations to be made to the Salvation Army Church (9525 83 Ave. Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6V1, salvationarmygp.ca), or to your local Animal Shelter. Anne was an avid animal lover and would be appreciative of any help that could be given to animals in need.

Aunt Annie was a beautiful, kind, caring, thoughtful soul. She gave me the gift of encouraging words when she began writing me letters when I was 8 or 9. I think it all started out of a loneliness I was feeling, and my grandmother Almeda (Herman's sister and Annie's sister-in-law) said that I should write letters to Aunt Annie, assuring me she would love to hear from me. And so began a correspondence between a young child and her great aunt whom she had never met. She wrote me letters and sent me things- pictures and stickers. Finally one summer she was at the same Salvation Army church as me, in Winterton, NL, and feeling that I knew her from our letters, I walked right up to her and said hello and we had a lovely chat. At the age of 18, I moved to Grande Prairie where I visited regularly with Aunt Annie and Uncle Herman. Many lovely meals and beautiful conversations were shared in their home, where a person always felt loved and welcomed. The world is a little dimmer without you in it Aunt Annie, but your light shines on in all of us who had the honour and treasure of knowing you. I can imagine how you are rejoicing to be with the Lord and Saviour you loved and served on earth, and to be reunited with your husband you loved so dearly. Love, Lyndsay Schlarbaum (Senior)

Annie was one of the sweetest people that anyone could meet. With her beautiful smile and genuine welcome she made you feel that she really cared about you. The last time I saw her was in Buchans when she went back for a visit and she had lost none of her warmth. Just looking at her could lift your spirits because she had a true sense of style that added to her wonderful personality. What a lovely obituary! Sincere sympathy to all her family from Len and from me. May God's love surround you and grant you peace.

To Donna, Bob and Tony and the Cluett Family, So sorry to hear of Aunt Annie's passing. Wish we could be there to share in this time with you. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with her. As kids we would always look forward to her and Uncle Herman visiting at Garnish. Aunt Annie always had a way of making you feel special. In 2006 when I moved to Grande Prairie for work I had many visits at her home. It was so nice to sit with a cup of tea and just chat about family. Family meant so much to her. Aunt Annie was one of the kindest people I know and heaven is just a little brighter today as she takes her place with the angels. May the memories you have comfort you in these days. Lyndon, Trudy and Family

Anne, such a beautiful lady, inside and out. Anne was blessed with such a beautiful spirit and she absolutely exuded kindness and gratefulness. I was honoured to spend time with Anne last week and her words were " everything is good, everything is perfect." That was Anne, good and perfect. Our family will miss you Anne but we know you're back with your beloved Herman and Jerry. Exactly where you wanted and longed to be. Rest in peace my dear friend.

I met Anne when I was walking my dog Archie past Wildrose. She ran right out and made a friend in Archie and myself. We saw her a lot after that and she always offered Archie up a treat. She was a very nice lady and I missed seeing her when she was unable to come down to visit. May she rest in peace.
