Obituary For Anne Kapusta Popowich

Anne Popowich, a resident of Grande Prairie for 69 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the age of 93 years.

Anne was born September 4, 1924 in Sliac, Zvolen, Czechoslovakia. When Anne was 14, she immigrated to Canada with her mom and dad where they homesteaded land in the Radway area north of Edmonton. Anne had only one sister, Lillian, who was born there.

In 1942, she met and married John Popowich. Linda and Ken were born in Radway and when Ken was two weeks old, the family, including both sets of in-laws, purchased farm land and moved to Grande Prairie, 2 miles south of the airport. Ken still farms there. Evelyn was born in Grande Prairie two years later.

Left to mourn are Anne’s children: Linda Walsh, Ken (Irene) Popowich, and Evelyn (Myles) Wolchyn; grandchildren: Darcy Landry, Kelsy (Nicole) Landry, Kevin (Meg) Landry, Angela (Dion) Livingston, Lori (Emery) Beaulieu, Jennifer (Scott Hudson) Popowich, and Diana (Jeff) Maltais, Cory (Jennifer) Wolchyn, Carri-Ann (Jason) Lewis, Christopher (Lindsey) Wolchyn; 26 great-grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren; as well as nieces: Lydia, Judy, Rosalie, Melody, and their families.

Anne was predeceased by her husband John, parents Suzanna and Andy Kapusta, sister Lillian Grubert, and son in-law Robert Walsh.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.)

Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (Unit 109, 10126 120 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 8H9).
