On Sunday evening, September 3, 2023, Arnold Gliege passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 82 years.

Arnold was our beloved Father, Grandpa, Uncle, and Friend.

Arnold was a long-time member of McLaurin Baptist Church, where Shirley and he attended for many years with their children. Many hours were spent in church gatherings where Shirley and Arnold would visit with long-time friends. They also enjoyed activities at the Clairmont Seniors Centre and the 55 Plus Luncheon.

Arnold met lots of people in parking lots such as the Co-op, and wasn’t shy about talking with them about all sorts of vehicles and community news.

For his last job prior to his retirement, Arnold was employed at the Grande Spirit Foundation in a maintenance position.

Arnold was a hard worker and loved tinkering, fixing, and creating. He was especially talented at mechanical tasks and could take apart and repair almost anything. He was also very proud to be self-employed with Arnold’s Parking Lot Maintenance and Line Painting.

Farming and farm machinery were a life-long interest for Arnold. From his early days on the farm at Peoria, AB, he was always keen on knowing about the industry. He never met a combine that he didn’t like and would spent hours chatting with staff at Prairie Coast Equipment.

Remembering Arnold are his children: Kevin, and Colleen (Randy); grandchildren: Matthew (Jackie), Tiffany (Mel), Brent (Danielle), and Aliesha (Carson); and sister Elsie from Prince George, BC. Arnold was also blessed with a great-granddaughter Brandi. Left to remember Arnold are other family members and friends near and far.

Arnold was predeceased by Shirley, his wife of 52 years who passed away in 2020; son Michael in 2015; and daughter Lisa in 2022. He was predeceased by his siblings: Emil, Edna, Esther, Alma, Amanda, and 3 infant siblings.

The Family would like to thank the staff at Lakeview Lodge in Clairmont, AB, where Arnold lived for a year after Shirley’s passing. Thank you also to the staff at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Unit 22 and 23. In April 2023, Arnold moved to Mackenzie Place and the family appreciates the care provided by the staff, until his passing.

A Viewing will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 2:00pm at McLaurin Baptist Church in Grande Prairie (10913 107 Ave.). Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00pm. Refreshments to follow and then interment at the Emerson Trail Cemetery.
