Obituary For Artie "Archie" Allan Gakan

It is with devasting grief and heartbreak I announce the passing of my love of 55 years, Archie Allan Gakan on Monday, October 28, 2024, in Grande Prairie, AB.

Archie was born on June 21, 1947, in Smeaton, SK. He was the youngest of the Gakan family, who settled in Foxford, SK and farmed for many years. This was also where he loved playing football and participating in track and field. After graduating from Meath Park High School, he started working at Stuart Electric and Furniture in Prince Albert, SK. This was where he met his future wife, Bev, and they began their journey. He eventually started a career at Co-op and was there for many years. They welcomed son Michael, daughter Amanda, and the family was complete. He eventually was transferred and the family moved to Wetaskiwin, AB, where he was the Furniture Manager. He then moved to Rycroft, AB where he was General Manager, after that, he spent fifteen years at Bama Furniture and The Bed Shoppe before enjoying his well-earned retirement.

Over the years he was always involved in sports and his kids' activities, such as volleyball, soccer, broomball, and slow pitch. He volunteered on many committees and would always lend a hand. Archie was generous, kind and loving. Some of his fondest memories were made while camping, quadding and spending time at the farm in Saskatchewan.

Archie is survived by his loving wife Bev; children: Michael (Barbara) and Amanda (Jason); grandchildren: Kristina (Kyle), Brittany, Chelsea and Kashtyn; brother-in-law Jeff (Bonnie); sister-in-law Debbie; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A private viewing and service will be held for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Archie would’ve liked for you to just hug someone you love.
