Obituary For Barry Lee Lazoruk

Barry Lee Lazoruk, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Rycroft, AB, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, at the age of 69 years.

Barry was born March 30, 1950 in Spirit River, AB, to his loving parents Mike and Rose Lazoruk. He grew up in Rycroft and, after high school, ventured to Edmonton, AB, to pursue his accounting and business administration designation at NAIT. During this time, he met the love of his life, Mary Angeline Sciog. In April 1973, Barry and Angie were married in Kinistino, SK. Shortly after, they settled in Rycroft where they raised their family.

Barry was a huge sports enthusiast and volunteered for many different charitable organizations. Some that were very near and dear to his heart included: Lions Club International, Royal Canadian Legion, and Sorrentino’s Compassion House.

He will be sadly missed by his children Michelle Lazoruk and Trevor (Tara) Lazoruk, brother Alvin Lazoruk, sister Joanne Basarab, niece Shaelena Lazoruk and sister in-law Carol (Bill) Sciog.

Barry was predeceased by his wife Angie Lazoruk, daughter Baby Lazoruk, and parents Mike and Rose Lazoruk.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

To the family, my deepest sympathy. Barry was my classmate at Rycroft High from 1967 to 1969. I always marveled at his high school math skills. We had a good laugh that I was the one, with minimal math or accounting skills, to own a finance company. My fondest memory was from my days as a rock and roll musician in the 60s. This poor Woking boy did not own an electric guitar, but Barry was so gracious that he gave me his Fender guitar to play at our gigs. I should have bought the Fender when he offered it to me, as it would be a great memory to have. To me he will always be remembered, and the world has lost a kind and caring person. Michelle & Trevor. On behalf of the Alberta-Northwest Territories Command of the Royal Canadian Legion, I wish to express our deepest condolences to the both of you and Barry's extended family. I've gotten to know Barry very well over the past nine years or so and considered him a loyal friend. The last time we travelled together was in 2016 at the Dominion Command Convention in St John's NL, coincidentally my hometown. My best recollection is of Barry & I sitting in a pub and eating mussels until we were almost sick. There may have been some beer involved too! Then we went back to the hotel and sipped on Grand Marnier until bedtime. Barry was an outstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was genuine in his care and compassion for our Veterans. He will be sadly missed. We will remember him. John Mahon President
