It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Larry Steinke, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Sexsmith, AB, on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Prairie Lake Hospice, at the age of 83 years.

Ben Steinke was born on April 6, 1940, in Webster, AB. On August 19, 1963, Ben married Shirley (nee Matthews) and they had 59 years of marriage.

Ben was fun, loving, hard working, funny, charismatic, and a friend to all.

Ben will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley Steinke; children: Linda Hennigar, Lori (Norm) Hoag, Kenneth (Trixie) Steinke, Daniel (Diane) Steinke, Karen (Don) Wright, and Catherine (Trevor) Bilous; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

Ben was predeceased by his parents Gus and Mary Steinke; sister Evelyn; as well as brothers Art, John, Fred, and James.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Laura Henry and the homecare team, Dr. Barreth, Dr. Martin, and Brenda Pellend and staff at Prairie Lake Hospice.

A Funeral Service, officiated by Pastor Scott Brayall, will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 1:00pm, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9610 108 Ave.). Interment to follow at the Emmaus Lutheran Cemetery for close family and friends.

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Ben’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
