Obituary For Betty Alberta Thompson Harvie

Betty Alberta Harvie, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at her home, at the age of 84 years.

Betty (nee Thompson) was the first daughter born to Kenneth and Eleanor Thompson on June 19, 1934 in Dixonville, AB. She was raised on a farm and took all her education in Dixonville and Berwyn. She married Don Harvie in October 1953. Because of Don’s job as a forest officer, they lived in Fort McMurray, Fishcreek, Grovedale, Grande Cache, Slave Lake, and Grande Prairie. Betty worked for the government and crop insurance. In 1956, they had their only daughter, Dawn Annette.

For the last 20 years, Betty loved to travel and camp with her daughter and son in-law. She would talk to anyone she met. Her family meant everything to her and her faith in God was strong.

Betty will be sadly missed by her only daughter Dawn (Daniel) Laycock; grandchildren: David Laycock, Darron (Amanda) Laycock, and Deanne (Lee) Miller; 9 great-grandchildren whom she was so proud of: Harmony, Charity, Hannah, Silas, Serenity, Elijah, Simon, Zac, and Lydia; also sister Carol Williams of Grimshaw.

She was predeceased by her husband Don Harvie, parents Ken and Eleanor, and in-laws Robert and Verna Harvie.

At Betty’s request, there will be no public service.

Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).

So sorry to hear about the passing of your sweet mama. She was such a lovely lady! I so appreciated both of your parents and have nothing but good thoughts of both of them. They were very kind people.
