Obituary For Betty Jane Wiens (nee Everton)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Betty Wiens, of Grande Prairie, AB, on Monday, July 1, 2024 at the age of 91 years.

Betty was born on March 24, 1933 in Hythe, AB, surrounded by her loving family, she passed away peacefully after a brief diagnosis of lung cancer.

Betty is survived by her son Ken (Susan), grandchildren Derek (Kety), Michelle (David), great-grandchildren Sarah, Sam, William, and Quinn; daughter Brenda (Dail Farquhar), grandchildren Dean and Brad, great-grandchildren Rayna and Kaden; Son Harvey (Colleen), grandchildren Kirstie (Jeff), Jordy (Claudia), great-grandchildren Bently and Averi; daughter Sandi (Ed McKenzie), grandchildren Jessica (Nathan), Allie (Chris), great-grandchildren Aubree, Emmy and Miller; as well as her brother Bennie Everton and sister Margaret (Herman Stamp). Betty will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, George; parents Ross and Retta Everton, brother Don Everton; sister Joan Kirby; sister-in-law Audrey Everton and brother-in-law Lawrence Kirby; As well as her much loved and cherished granddaughter Amber McKenzie.

The family would like to thank mom’s coffee group and her many friends at Prairie Lake Seniors Residence for the many wonderful years of friendship. We would also like to thank Dr. R. Leal and Dr J. Keegan for their kindness, understanding and care during this difficult time. As well as Carmen for her compassionate, thoughtful guidance.

A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Luncheon to follow with laughter and memories.

A Livestream will be available the day of the service.

    To family: Betty was a special friend and sister-in-law . We had many laughs and good times to remember from those days in Mesa. It was always great to hear about the latest book she read and her version was better than the original. She read a lot. Will miss you. Shirley

    Betty was a beautiful soul with a zest for Life and a love of Family ,She was a longtime member of the Royal Purple,a great friend ,and will be greatly missed -Rest easy Betty Love Sharon & Richard Annis and families
