Obituary For Betty Jean McCallum Knezevich

Betty Jean Knezevich, resident of Rycroft passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the age of 77 years.

Betty was born on February 26, 1939 in Riding Mountain, Manitoba to Mina Bare and James Henry McCallum. At 9 years of age, two years after the death of her father, Betty's uncle Jack and his friend Pat Keown from Spirit River went to Manitoba to visit family and Jack introduced Pat to Mina. Mina later moved her family to Spirit River. Mina and Pat became close companions, and Pat accepted them as his family.

Betty attended school in Bronco Creek and Spirit River. In 1956 she met Eugene Knezevich. Betty decided to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse's Aide and headed off to college in Calgary. Although she enjoyed her training, she decided to marry Eugene and start a family on the farm.

She enjoyed being a farm wife and mother. Together, Betty and Eugene raised 5 children. She was known for her grand gardens, many preserves, and beautiful flowers in her yard.

After the children were grown, Betty enjoyed bingo, ceramic classes, and liquid embroidery.

Betty leaves to mourn her husband of 59 years Eugene; children: Mel (Darlene) Knezevich, Pam Knezevich (Don), Sherry (Bruce) Solberg, Gerry Knezevich (Candace) and Carrie Leslie; grandchildren: Ben (Carla) Knezevich and their children Dylan, Kylie, Zayn and Korben; Eric (Allison) Knezevich and their sons Emerick and William; Bobbie Jo (Curtis) Meyers and their children Cara and Breanna; Billie Jo Gliege and her daughters Jenna, Jessica and Sierra; Wayne Gliege and his son Kyle; Fritz Solberg and his son Myles; Ashley (Brad) Bourke; Megan Solberg and son Makao; Courtney (Carson) Hastie; and Allie and Gage Leslie.

Betty was predeceased by her father James McCallum, mother Mina McCallum (nee Bare), step-father Melville (Pat) Keown, and brother Wilbert “Willie” McCallum.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 2:00pm, at Old Mission Cemetery between Rycroft and Spirit River. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow at the Rycroft Hall at 3:00pm.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one`s choice.

    Carrie, Gerry and family, I am so sorry to hear of your moms passing. Although I didn't know her, I am sending you and your families hugs during this difficult time. Reading her obituary today brought me back to the peace country and the 70's/80's. I hope you find peace and happiness in the memories you are left with.
