Obituary For Brenda Mary Kokosha

It is with very heavy hearts and extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Brenda Mary Kokosha on Monday, October 3, 2016.

Brenda was born on February 14, 1939 and raised in Kingston, ON. During a holiday with a cousin to Sexsmith, AB in July 1961, she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Nick Kokosha. Together for 54 years until her passing, they built a family and life on a farm in Happy Valley near Spirit River, AB, where they raised two daughters and two sons and entertained their 5 grandsons and friends.

Brenda was an Administrator for the Spirit River RCMP for 23 years, where she made many long lasting friendships. She was also an avid outdoorswoman. Brenda took immense pleasure in quading, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, hunting, horseback riding, touring the trap line with Nick and the family and sitting in the “park” and sharing conversations and coolers with friends.

She will be forever and sadly missed by her husband Nick Kokosha; son Jason Kokosha; daughter Rhonda Sopko (Dan Duggan); son Warren Kokosha (Angela); daughter Paula Kokosha and grandsons: Tony Sopko, Dylan Sopko, Evan Kokosha, Caleb Kokosha and Jaden Kokosha; sisters and brothers in-law and their families: Edna Grotkowski, Louis Kokosha (Sharon), Mary Sandul (Fred), Lydia Kokosha (Gary) and Ruth Elvestad. She will be greatly missed by good friends Carol Sellin, Sharon Robichaud and Edith Jarvis, as well as many other family members and friends.

Brenda was predeceased by her mother and father Edith and Ted Radcliffe, mother and father in-law Tom and Rosie Kokosha, sister in-law Irene Hewitt, and brothers in-law Rodney Elvestad and Adam Grotkowski.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Burial to follow at Emerson Trail Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to AHS–Central Peace Health Complex–Palliative Care Unit (Box 339, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0).

Dear Kokosha family, I was shocked and surprised at hearing about the passing of your wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very nice lady who never failed to stop and talk to me even though I hadn't seen in years. I recall her keeping and immaculate yard on the farm and would admire it every time I saw it on the bus ride to school. I hope and pray that the memories you have of her will sustain you at this time of grief. Angela Hartmier (Murray)

Barbara joins me in sending our very deep sympathy to Nick and family. Brenda was a very caring and talented person, a shining light, and a totally irreplaceable member of the team when I was detachment commander at Spirit River. It was a privilege to have known her and I am incredibly sorry to receive this news of her passing.
