Obituary For Carin Kiyawasew
Carin Virginia Cecile Kiyawasew, resident of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, at the age of 34 years.
Carin was born March 9, 1987, in Grande Prairie, AB, where she was raised. She then moved to Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation at a young age, where she resided until her passing.
She was a Jill-of-all-trades, such as breakdancing, firefighting, being a great artist, jigging, singing, and her greatest accomplishment of being a mother to her handsome son Wesley.
Carin was a ray of sunshine on a dark day, so hilarious and always had a way with words that touched your heart. Her smile lit up every room she entered.
She will be sadly missed by her spouse Gabriel Johnston-Peterson; son Wesley Axel Reid Johnston-Peterson; mother Karen Kiyawasew; brothers: Alfred Mitchell, Kendall Manichoose, Elwood Badger and Geronimo Badger; and sister Michelle C. Mitchell.
Carin was predeceased by her father Gilligan Kiyawasew, grandparents Barney and Cecile Kiyawasew, brother Franklin Kiyawasew, grandfather Henrey Gladue; as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
A Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 11:00am at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.), with the Funeral Service to follow at 2:00pm. Interment to follow the service at 4:30pm at Sturgeon Lake Cemetery.
