Obituary For Cathleen Janet Dalgleish

Cathleen Janet Dalgleish, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at age 85 years.

Cathleen was born on March 3, 1939, in Beaverlodge to parents William and Chrissie Fraser. She grew up on the family farm Southwest of Beaverlodge in the Halcourt area. Cathy met the love of her life, Bill Dalgleish (he was the boy next door), and they were married on November 14, 1959. Before getting married and starting a family Cathy attended training to become a nursing aide. Bill and Cathy started a life together raising a family on the farm and working a “multitude” of jobs and businesses to make ends meet. She always said she liked the adventure of not knowing what Bill would take on next. Sometimes it meant running Wapiti Slashing, their busy oilfield company, or picking up and moving to Gibson, BC, to run Smitty’s Marina. Later it would mean moving back to Grande Prairie and owning an RV dealership. Life was an ever-unfolding adventure for Cathy and Bill.

Cathy was always there for her family and friends to provide a helping hand or just to listen. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her faith was always her guiding light, and she was very involved in her bible studies and prayer groups. She joined Bill in his passion for the outdoors; camping, fishing, hunting and trapping, often with friends and family in tow.

Cathy and Bill owned many used RV’s however finally in their retirement they purchased a new motorhome that they enjoyed very much. Travelling throughout Alberta and British Columbia to spend time with friends and family. Fishing was always a favourite pastime of theirs.

Cathy will be sadly missed by her sister: Margret Fraser; sons: Lorne (Trish), Lyle (Alison), and Mike (Tammie); daughter Sharleen; grandchildren: Ashley, Aline, Shaun, Drew, Josie, Braden, Shaylan, Ryan, Cory and Kristina; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Felix, Dallas, Pierce, Rylan, Rowan, Brynn and Bohdi. She will also be missed by many friends and relatives whom she shared her life with.

Cathy is predeceased by her husband Bill Dalgleish; father William Fraser; mother Chrissie Fraser; father-in-law Carson Dalgleish; mother-in-law Rita Dalgleish; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

A family graveside interment for Bill and Cathy will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11:30 am at the Halcourt Cemetery (Range Rd. 104) Halcourt, Alberta.

A gathering to celebrate both Cathy Dalgleish and Bill Dalgleish’s life will follow, Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at the Anglican Hall (310 10th Street) in Beaverlodge with a luncheon.
