Obituary For Cecilia Margaret Dixson

Cecilia Margaret Dixson (nee McIntosh) passed away on April 12, 2025, after experiencing a stroke on December 23, 2024.

She was born on July 10, 1924, in Berwyn, Alberta to Archie and Elizabeth McIntosh. She grew up on the family farm with an older brother Ed and younger sister Rita.

After completing high school in Berwyn, Cecilia went to the Normal School in Edmonton, intent on becoming a teacher. Teachers were in short supply during the Second World War, so after only several months of training, Cecilia was sent out to a one room school and told to do the best she could. This teaching career lasted over 30 years, with her final teaching assignment at Elmworth School. This career gave her great pleasure and satisfaction.

After marrying Glen Dixson in 1949, she was also part of a farming/ranching partnership. They started their farming career in the Foremost area, and their two children, Lois and Blain were born in Southern Alberta. In 1963, the family moved north to the ranch in the Rio Grande area. Many happy years were spent on the ranch, raising mainly beef, while Cecilia continued teaching at Elmworth,

Cecilia was widowed in 1985 and she soon moved to Beaverlodge to begin the next chapter of her life. Cecilia spent her retirement enjoying golf, theatre, gardening, travelling, reading, dancing, playing cards and board games, as well as socializing at every opportunity.

Cecilia was predeceased by her parents Archie and Elizabeth, her husband Glen, her siblings Ed McIntosh, and Rita Moulding, as well as Tom Sheppard, a companion later in life, and her daughter-in-law Barb Dixson.

She is survived by her children Lois (Reg) Prostebby, Blain Dixson, three granddaughters; Kali Prostebby, Tori (Thomas) Smith, Kiera (Mike) Stevenson, and four great grandchildren: Zoey and Rion Smith, and Jake and Kate Stevenson. Cecilia’s memory will also be cherished by niece Laurie (Jon) Kurnick, Dick (Geoff) McIntosh and cousins Jan and Rob Little.

Special thanks to Dr Van, Dr. Presley, staff at Amisk Court and Beaverlodge Hospital, whose care and compassion made Cecilia’s life more comfortable.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, at 2pm in the Anglican Hall in Beaverlodge. (1220 5th Avenue)

I love this picture of her, she sure didn't look 100! So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I so enjoyed our coffee mornings at Soups. I admired and respected Cel a great deal. Rest in peace my friend.
