Obituary For Charlotte Patterson
Charlotte Patterson, longtime resident of the Glen Leslie, Bezanson (Fitzsimmons) and Grande Prairie areas, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2016, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 94 years.
Charlotte was born in Bern, Switzerland on June 10, 1922. Charlotte and her parents, Hans and Annie Ruch, along with her older sister Eva, arrived in Canada when Charlotte was two years old. They eventually settled and homesteaded in the Bezanson area where Charlotte grew up along with her seven siblings: Eva Hollingsworth (deceased), Lenora Fogel (deceased), Alberta (Patterson) deceased, Olive Strid, Hans Ruch, Margaret Courtney and Evelyn McMillan. Charlotte married Earl Patterson (deceased) on August 1, 1941. They had two children: Wayne (1942) and Bob (1944).
All her life, Charlotte knew the value of hard work and she instilled this work ethic in her children to be passed down to the generations to come. She loved children, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great great-grandchildren. Any animals she had were always named and special to her. She was an excellent seamstress, and sewed for many. Charlotte was also a great cook and baker. When anyone dropped in, they always had a snack and coffee. She loved to play cards and often did so until the early hours of the morning.
Although blind and in a wheelchair, Charlotte enjoyed all of the entertainers that came to the lodge and knew all of them by name. She enjoyed playing bingo, with the help of family, and always bought lotto tickets in the hope of winning the “big one”.
Charlotte leaves her legacy to her sons Wayne (Paulette) and Bob (Gwen, deceased); grandchildren on Wayne’s side of the family: Sandra (Dwayne) Van Schaick and their children Brett (Elisha) and Kadence, Ty (MacKenzie) and Wynter, Tracey Dowd and her children Liam and Maggie, Todd Patterson (Susanne) and their children Jordan and Brady. On Bob’s side: Corinne Patterson and her children Kyle and Jace Weegar, Marc Patterson and his children Paige and Hannah (their mother Christine), Beau and Luke (their mother Candy). She also leaves her legacy to a very special family in her life: Ernie and Liz Lange and family; the kids were like grandchildren to her. She also leaves to mourn her sisters: Olive, Margaret and Evelyn; brother Hans (Carol); as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, 3 sisters, 6 brothers in-law, Earl, daughter in-law Gwen, many nieces and nephews and special friend Benny.
Rest in peace Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 11:00am, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bezanson, AB (102 St, and 98 Ave.).
Thank you to the staff and homecare at Wild Rose Manor, her last home, you were very kind and caring. Thank you to Kay McNally for your caring. Also thank you to the Staff on 5 North and Dr. Andreiuk and Dr. Pope.
