Obituary For Cherie Hamm
Cherie Grace Hamm passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 36 years.
Cherie was born to Henry and Irene Hamm on May 11, 1981. Little did they know that their baby would have unique challenges in life. She was born blind and had Cerebral Palsy, and yet that didn’t keep her from the zest of life, with her humour and wittiness. Because her sight was gone, her hearing was acute. She knew what was happening around her, and saw into people’s hearts.
After graduating from high school, she spent 1½ years at Peace River Bible Institute, then lived for periods of time in La Crete with a friend, in her own house, in a seniors’ home in Hythe, with a couple in Grande Prairie, and lastly, living independently at the Gardens along with her cat, Cali.
In the last few years, her energy level decreased severely due to congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension caused by blood clots in her arteries and in her lungs. She just couldn’t push through her last bout of pneumonia this time. Her family was present as she breathed her last breath and she entered into the place that she longed for.
She will be deeply missed by her parents Henry and Irene Hamm; sister Julie (Scott) Pravitz and nephews Jake, Alex and Branden; brother Tim (Shealene) and niece Ariellah; brother James (Rebecca) and nephew Bentley; and sister Meagan (Ryan) Gladu ad niece Emily. She has many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances who have been inspired and entertained by who she was. She will be tenderly and severely missed by all who got to know her. With her new body now, she is able to see Jesus’ face along with all the wonders of creation. She can dance with joy because she has finished the end of her journey on earth.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 7:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2:00pm at Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 102 St.).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. She was a exceptional young lady and a joy to have on the bus. We had some good times. Loved to hear her sing.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful Cherie. I am sure she is now flying with the angels which she so very deserved. Our son Derek spent a lot of time with Cherie throughout her years at Crystal Park school. He quite enjoyed all the time they had together. He was even suspended for a couple of days for punching a kid that was picking on her. They laughed about it afterwards.

We shall forever remember her speech at James & Rebecca's wedding, what a good story teller she was with a wonderful sense of humour. Dear Irene and Henry, I have such happy memories of a young girl coming into my piano studio -- already greeting me from the door with a strong happy voice and a few giggles. You were so wonderful with her Irene -- encouraging her to tackle just each little step -- to pull up her spine -- to be independent -- to listen -- to try. She was the second blind student I worked with in my studio and through her I learned many lessons to be used with the next three that I enjoyed. Cherie taught me generously! She always recognized my voice when I would greet her at a choir concert even though I hadn't worked with her for quite a long time. God bless you all. Cherie really was a little "gem" in my experience as an instructor. Yes! She will now enjoy a full view of Jesus! Willa (and Gordon) Meyers
