Obituary For Daniel "Dan" Richard Olson
It is with love that the family of Daniel Richard Olson announce his passing on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 after a lengthy stay at the Grande Prairie Care Centre. Daniel lived to the age of 89 years.
Dan was born at Cold Lake, Alberta on April 10, 1935. He grew up on the family farm near Beaver Crossing, Alberta with his parents, Ruth and Christie and siblings: Helen, Ladine, Russell and Ted. Dan enjoyed life on the farm and was a big help with the many daily tasks however, any free time he had was spent with a fishing pole down at the Beaver River.
As a young man he heard the call of opportunity and left the farm to live with his grandfather, Fred Bamber, in the town of Grand Centre, Alberta. There he met the love of his life and future wife, Avon Livingstone, who also lived in the area. They were married in 1957 and had three sons: Dwayne, Murray and Bradley.
In 1967, Dan and Avon moved from Edmonton, Alberta to Grande Prairie, Alberta where Dan took a job as a fireman and in later years became the fire chief of the Air Crash and Rescue team at the Grande Prairie Airport. The family resided at the Airport until they moved into the city of Grande Prairie in 1972. Dan continued to work as the fire chief until his retirement in 1992.
Dan is predeceased by his parents, Christie and Ruth; siblings: Helen, Russell and Ted; as well as his nephew Shawn Giles.
Left to mourn his passing are his sister Ladine and her son, Darrell (Donna) from Peterbourough, ON; Ladine’s daughter-in-law Shelley Collins Giles; niece Tammy (Bevan) of Bon Accord, AB and nephew Trevor (Tracy) from Hamilton, ON
He leaves behind his loving wife, Avon and their children: son Dwayne (Lise) and their children: Jesse (Suzanne), Isaac (Jessica), Michael (Kelsey), and Philip (Carla), son Murray (Kim) and their children: Christopher (Kayla Tweedle) and Brooke, and son Brad (Wanda) and their children: Charity (Troy Latham) and Daniel (Cerenity Funk). He also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren: Ethan, Rylan, Ava, Oliver, David, Evan, Levi, Josephine, Emmerlee, James, Anna, Louis, Margret and Westin.
Dan will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Grande Prairie Care Centre who took such wonderful care of him these past months. The family is very grateful for your kindness.
