Obituary For Daniel "Dan" Yanishewski
Dan Yanishewski, long time resident of Spirit River, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in his home, at the age of 85 years.
Dan was born on the farm in a log house in Ksituan, AB, on March 27, 1938. He started playing the guitar at an early age and his love for music soon developed and carried on with him for the rest of his life. The family orchestra called the “Western Aces” played at dances and weddings for many years.
He worked with heavy duty equipment building roads in the Peace River area and beyond, in the lumber industry, and oil field work until he retired. Forty years and four retirements later, he finally retired for good at the age of 70.
He met Jean at Moonshine Lake, AB, and they married April 14, 1961. They had four children. Life was hard at the beginning with Dan away working and Jean at home looking after the kids. Life eventually became easier and more appreciated.
They were married for 62 years and had lots of fun and adventures throughout the years travelling across Canada, Nashville, Hawaii, and BC.
In retirement he enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. He had music in the house every day.
He was a kind, giving person, and a fun-loving host.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Jean; children: Kimberly (Ken), Marty (Rene), Denise (Paul), and Teresa; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Ahafia; 4 brothers; as well as 2 sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 1:00pm, at the Town of Spirit River Cemetery. A brief service and luncheon to follow at the Spirit of Peace United Church (4902 45 Ave.).
Memorial donations may be made in Dan’s honor to STARS (10911 123 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7Z3).
