Obituary For Daniel Kuntz
Daniel Kuntz passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 95 years.
Daniel was born in Kowal, Poland, on December 10, 1928 to parents Rosalia and Karol Kunc (Kuntz).
On July 13, 1929, the Kunc family arrived in Canada after three weeks on the ocean. Landing in Halifax NS they made their way to Wembley, AB where they made their home on a German settlement and had to change their surname spelling to Kuntz.
Danny (as he liked to be called) attended school in the Wembley area and once he finished he started working.
Danny met Theresa (Schmidt) while working in a logging camp where Theresa was a cook. Danny and Theresa got married on August 20, 1963 in Grande Prairie, AB. They made Grande Prairie their home and had three kids before moving to Grovedale in 1970. He started farming and they had another three children. Danny and his family farmed in the summer and he ran equipment in the winter months. Theresa stayed home to raise the children. They lived off the land by hunting, gardening and keeping a few farm animals to support their large family.
Danny and Theresa sold the family farm in 1993 and moved to Beaverlodge. In 2018 they moved to Clairmont and lived until his passing.
Danny was always willing to help his neighbours when they needed him. He was very skilled in mechanics, welding and equipment operations.
His hobbies were simple; he liked fishing, hunting and playing cards with Ken and Gisel Jebb. He also enjoyed watching baseball and hockey.
Later in life, Danny looked forward to the annual family campouts with Theresa, all the kids, grandchildren and even the pets. These annual campouts were enjoyed in various places within the province. The tradition started at Rochon Sands Provincial Park and went on for 12 years, having the tenth year back at Rochon Sands. The final campout was held at Sturgeon Lake so he could travel back and forth from home.
Danny will be sadly missed by his wife Theresa of 60 years; daughter Marjorie (Mike) and their children: Heather (Ryan), Tailar (Nathan), Cassidy and Morgan; son Erwin and his daughter Haylee; daughter Donna (Brian); son Raymond and his children Sierra and Jackson; son Larry (Shere) and their child Delaura; Murray (Shelley) and their daughters: Meriska, Emily, Katie and Lindsey; great-grandchildren Terry-Ann and Ezra.
Danny was predeceased by parents Rosalia and Karol Kunc; brothers Paul (Betty) and Joe; sisters: Bertha (Felix), Pauline (Conrad), Gertie (Earl) and two other sisters (one had passed in Poland and the other passed once getting to Canada).
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Grovedale Cemetery (69535 RR 64) Grovedale, AB. A Luncheon will follow at the Grovedale Community Hall Meeting Room (TWP 700) at 2:00pm.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in honour of Danny.
