Obituary For Daniel Raymond Dusseault
It is with great sadness we announce that Daniel Raymond Dusseault passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the age of 70, at the University of Alberta Hospital, in Edmonton, AB.
Daniel was born on January 19, 1950 to Raymond and Alice Dusseault. He grew up on the family farm west of Girouxville, AB. After high school, he went to Fairview Agriculture College and formed lifelong friendships.
After college, while working for Western Bus Lines in Edmonton, he met his bride Lorraine, and they were married in 1974. They resided on the family farm where they raised their family.
He loved sports. He played basketball, baseball, golf, and curled. He was instrumental in starting the after-school kids curling program, teaching them the skills of curling for 10 years.
He was first and foremost a farmer, driving equipment and grain trucks since he was a very young boy. He loved the land and wanted it to be sustainable for generations to come. He was one of the first farmers to seed the crop with a no-till drill. In the 1990s, he went into the cattle business and was very proud to have taken a course in handling cattle in a gentle, humane, non-threatening way. In keeping with his interest in sustainability of the land, he did planned grazing, rotating the pastures on a daily basis. While farming he was a School Board trustee and chairman.
When the first computers were available, he could see the future and took the first mobile computer course offered. He kept his whole family educated on everything computer and technology related.
In 2004, opportunity knocked and he bought a Kenworth, and a new house in Grande Prairie. He had always wanted to drive a truck. Falcon Carriers was in business until 2017.
He and Lorraine bought a motorhome and travelled to the US, and there he added pickleball to his sports.
He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to kindly tease; if he teased you it meant he loved you.
In recent years, the summers were spent happily at the lot at Eaglesham Lakeside Golf Course, golfing and camping and thoroughly loving the time outdoors and making many very good friends there. The time spent at the golf course was always with family and friends. This is very reflective of the man he was; his natural environment always included the good company and conversation of family and friends. He cherished and appreciated his immediate family, extended family, and good friends.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Lorraine; children: Bryan, Jessica (Rob) Bartlett, and Kelsey (Crystal Dyki); grandchildren: Matthew and Jackson Bartlett, and Kaley and Payton Dusseault; brother Gerry; sisters: Lorraine MacDonald, Suzanne Houle, Louise (Ralph) Johnson, and Irene (Colin) Scott; mother and father in-law Bud and Donna Merrill; Lorraine’s siblings: Everett (Darlene) Merrill, Patsy (James) Roberts, Del (Wendy) Merrill, and Ken (Lana) Merrill; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Daniel was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Alice Dusseault; siblings: Roger Dusseault, Marilyn Dusseault, and Carmen and her husband Paul Thibault; brothers in-law: Mark MacDonald, Raymond Houle, and Doug Erickson; and sister in-law Sylviane Dusseault.
Rest in Peace Dear Man. We Will All Miss You. Until We Meet Again.
A private family service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in the Girouxville Church Grotto. The service starts at 1pm. For those wishing to pay their respects, there will be a pause between the service and burial where people can drive through the church yard.
Memorial donations may be made to The Lung Association (Box 4500 Stn South, Edmonton, AB, T6E 6K2) or to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).
