Obituary For Darlene Isabel Lockrem
Darlene Isabel Lockrem, resident of Grande Prairie AB, formerly of Wainwright AB, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 75 years.
Darlene was born on September 2, 1947, in Tofield AB, to Joseph and Isabel Sutton and was raised in Minburn and Wainwright Alberta. Darlene worked in several stores in Wainwright and for a time in a flower shop in Grande Prairie making flower arrangements. Darlene moved to the Grande Prairie area in 1968, and stayed there until her passing in 2023.
On her birthday in 1970, she brought her son Robert Charles Lockrem into the world and that took up a lot of her time. Darlene spent most of the next 40 years either on the acreage or out at the farm where she could be found in her flower or vegetable gardens, which she was very proud of. Darlene loved her rural life and spent many hours on her John Deere mower or behind the wheel of her beloved hand-cranked 1949 Cockshutt tractor raking hay.
One of Darlene's passions in life was sewing and knitting. She often sewed her own clothes and one of her proudest achievements was to knit hundreds of premature baby warming clothes for Alberta hospitals. In 2012, she gave up the country life and moved into the City of Grande Prairie and lived at her new home in Royal Oaks until three weeks before her passing.
Darlene is survived by her best friend and partner Allan Lockrem; son Robert (Julie) Lockrem; sisters Jean, Shirley, Cheryl, and Glenda; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Darlene was predeceased by her father Joseph; mother Isabel; brothers Darrell and Adrian; as well as sister Audrey.
As per Darlene's request, there will be no service and interment to be at a later date.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB), or to Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT (102, 9823 116 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB), or to a charity of one’s choice.
