Obituary For David Bergen

David Bergen, resident of Clairmont, AB, formerly of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Prairie Lake Hospice, at the age of 82 ½ years.

David was born on August 8, 1938, in Mexico. He moved to Manitoba, CA, in June of 1940, and then to La Crete, AB, in 1948. He married Mary Dyck in 1963, and born to this union were five children: Mary, Daniel, David Jr., Timothy and Phoebe. Mary, his first spouse, passed away on May 22, 1971. David lived in widowhood for three years, raising his five little children on his own. David married Helena Peters on June 30, 1974, and born to this union were seven children: Jacob, Susan, Helen, Paul, Esther, Joe and Jim.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Helena; children: Mary (Mark) Bontrager, Daniel (Suzi) Bergen, Phoebe (Rob) McCarlie, Jacob (Andrea) Bergen, Susan (Jake) Martens, Helen (Henry) Krahn, Paul (Jennifer) Bergen, Esther (Daniel) Cram, Joe (Heather) Bergen, and Jim (Jenn) Bergen; daughter in-law Linnea Potratz; 31 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

David was predeceased by his first wife, Mary; sons David Jr. and Henry Timothy; parents Frank and Aganetha Bergen; brothers: Cornelius, Frank, Jacob, Isaac, John #1, John #2, Daniel and Abe; as well as sister Margaretha.

Due to COVID-19, a private, invitation-only Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 7:00pm, in Grande Prairie at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave).

A Private, invitation-only Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home.

A Livestream of the service will be available to view on David’s obituary page on the Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

    Please accept my sincere condolences and respect for your father. He was a passionate man who loved God dearly and was not afraid to share that with others. He assisted with the weekly Hymn Sing program in Mackenzie Place and made regular Pastoral Care visits in the QEII Hospital as well.
