Obituary For David "Dave" Mark Carter

It is with deep sadness and breaking hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved grandpa, son, dad, partner, store keep, and local comedian Dave Carter, on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the age of 64 years.

Dave was born in Edmonton, AB, 3rd in line to Maurice and Alma Carter. He spent his youth in Highvale, AB, on the hobby farm where he grew up with his 3 sisters. He worked a variety of jobs including construction, landscaper, and long-distance truck driver.

In 1989, the Carter’s headed north, and Dave moved his family to Grovedale, AB. For 20 years Dave drove truck before he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning the General Store. For 13 years Dave served the community of Grovedale through his hard work, dedication, and man-which breakfast sandwiches.

Dave was well known for his humour, including nicknames for every regular customer, quick comebacks, and leaving entertaining reminders for his employees around the store. He planted a garden regularly and looked forward to its harvest every year. You would often find him in the kitchen late at night, cooking dinner for him and Linda. It was always delicious, and he didn’t like to share his recipes. He was as thoughtful as they come and always remembered the grandchildren’s favorite things, his kids bi-annual birthday presents, and Linda’s favorite hot chocolate. Many strangers have benefited from his kindness and big heart. Among those left to remember him and carry on his whit are: his devoted partner Linda; children: Chris (Kelley), Angela (Ryan,) Tyson (Bailey,) Jason, and Brandon (Sam); grandchildren: Seth, Emery, Cru, Lilah, Gavin, Billie, Carlie, and Jake; mother Alma; sisters Susan and Laurel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Maurice Carter; sister Ellen Hoffman; infant brother Hugh John; as well as many of his close friends.

The Hemerle, Carter, and McKay families would like to thank the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, GPRH, and the Grovedale Community for the support during Dave’s battle with Cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 2:00pm, at the Grovedale Hall.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital (8440-112 St., Edmonton, AB, T6G 2B7).
