Obituary For David Grant Moon
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Grant Moon on March 10th, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Hospital at the age of 84.
Grant was born on February 17th, 1941, to Charlie and Pearl Moon. He was welcomed by his older sister Leta, and his younger brother Ross completed the family in 1943.
Grant and his family lived with their grandma Moon on the original Moon family homestead. His father Charlie had a sawmill near Clarkson Valley and his family lived at the mill from 1946-1953. Grant went to school in Clarkson Valley until a school was built at the mill. After moving back to the farm in 1953, he went to school in Bezanson. Grades 10 and 11 were completed at the Grande Prairie High School, while staying at the dorms during the week. He then took a two-year course and earned his Grade 12 diploma at Vermilion Agricultural School.
After graduating in 1961, Grant moved back to the Moon family homestead and began grain and cattle farming with his brother Ross. They continued to farm together for over six decades. In 1965, Grant married his love, Margaret Miller. He always said, “she just walked across the field”. Together they created a loving home for their two children, Donna and Terry.
Heavily involved in the community that he loved and was so proud of, Grant was always willing and able to lend a helping hand to one and all. He spent countless hours making the community a better place.
Grant sat on many committees in Bezanson. He was on the Stampede Committee at the age of 16, the Hall committee, the Ag Society, and the Curling Rink, where he took pride in being the only icemaker in the country who could freeze ice uphill! He was a caretaker of the Glen Leslie Cemetery for well over 40 years and also spent many weekends and hours at the Bezanson Ski Hill. Along with full-time farming, Grant worked part time jobs at the Grande Prairie Auction Mart, where he put in many long hours and many miles on sale days. He also worked at All Peace Auctions, and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers alongside his son Terry.
In June of 2022, the big decision was made to leave the farm due to Grant’s declining health with his COPD. Although it was not the farm, they embraced their new community and friends.
Grant was the kind of friend that everyone should be so lucky to have. He also had the questionable ability to say and do things and get away with it, that most would not get away with. Grant was a jokester with a mischievous grin and a twinkle in his eye. He was always up for a good rye and coke, good story, good time, and definitely a good laugh. Many laughs were had with friends as well as family while camping, golfing, attending rodeos, and travelling. Grant’s greatest joy was his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He always made time to talk with the kids. He said his only regret in life would be that “They won't remember me or get to know me.”
Grant leaves to mourn, his wife of 59 years, Margaret, his daughter Donna (Blaine), son Terry (Margaret), grandchildren, Derrick (Dena), Broghan, Austin, Tristan (Leah), Del, Lindsay (Stephen), great grandchildren, Oliver, Raylan, Emma, and Nicholas, his brother Ross (Theresa) and many nieces and nephews, his cousin Warren (Pauline), whom he considered to be his son and daughter, their children Emily (Jarrett) Abby (Denny), Adam (Kiarra) and many dear friends too numerous to mention.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Pearl Moon, his sister Leta, brother-in-law Lorne, and his in-laws Carlyle and Dorothy Miller.
We are forever grateful to Dr. Heugh, Dr. Keegan, and the nursing staff at the Grande Prairie Hospital, as well as his cousin Laurel Reynolds. While Grant was in the hospital he received the kindest and most excellent care and attention.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday March 24th at 1:00 pm at the Bezanson Memorial Hall, Internment to follow at the Glen Leslie Cemetery.

I had the honor of knowing Grant and calling him a friend. I was listening to a Tim McGraw song. One of the lines in the song reminded me so much of Grant. "Be somebody that's worth rememberin'.....Live a life so when I die there's standing room only." Well Grant you lived that life and there will be standing room only. You will never be forgotten. Heartfelt condolences to the entire family.
