Obituary For David Norman Olson

David Olson, resident of Sexsmith, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 89 years.

David was born in Sexsmith, AB, December 20, 1934. He was raised, went to school, and graduated in Sexsmith.

One year after graduating, David did some survey work, and then came back to Sexsmith to work at Olson’s Meats with his father and two brothers.

David loved listening to music and led sing-alongs. He was gentle and kind, and always had a smile or greeting for everyone he encountered or passed by. He liked to paint, read, and watch sports. He never missed his grandchildren’s or great-grandchildren’s hockey, volleyball, or soccer games, concerts, or anything else they were involved with.

David will be sadly missed by his wife Lois Olson; children: Janice and Brian, Karen and Barry, Nancy and Bill, Marla and Roy, Rick and Danese, Naomi and Gary, Twyla and Larry, and Shawna and Jason; sister Marie (Ron) Nixon; as well as 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

David was predeceased by late wife Elizabeth; parents John and Mary; brothers Roald and Harold; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Shirley; and aunt Clara.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Grace Bible Fellowship (9515 93 St. Sexmith, AB.), at 2:00pm.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

The service will be livestreamed on Oliver's Funeral Home facebook page. The video will be available 5 minutes prior to the service starting.

    Always greeted warm and friendly by Dave in the store in the 40's and 50's and even a couple games in goal and survived thanks to Dave and Dwayne Bell. Great memories of him.

    I'd like to say I will miss your your infectious smile and ever so happy personality. David always filled the room with humility and kindness to everyone he would meet. A great man, father and to me brother-in law, hope you find peace on your last journey god bless you my freind.

    Mr. Olson was one of the kindest people I remember. I used to take my kids into the butcher shop and he would always smile the biggest smile and give them a treat. His beef jerky was the best around. My condolences to the family. He will be missed by many.
