Obituary For Dolores McConnell Vigen

The family of Dolores “Dolly” Moyra May Vigen, sadly announces her passing on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, at the age of 87 years.

Dolly was born to Robert and Isabella McConnell on May 15, 1929 and raised in McLennan, AB. She later moved to Grande Prairie where she met her future husband, Ralph Vigen. They were married on June 20, 1951 and started their family of six children soon after. Her life was spent as a homemaker but for many, many years, regularly travelled the chuckwagon circuit with Ralph.

She was a very generous person and loved to give to those around her. Whether it was a new baby, a wedding, or the paperboy, she always made sure the gifts were aplenty. This coincided with her lifelong passion of shopping!

Dolly lived a quiet life for the past fourteen years, first residing at Pioneer Lodge and then moving to the Grande Prairie Care Centre, where she resided at the time of her passing.

The family would like to express their utmost thanks to the excellent care she received from the staff at the Grande Prairie Care Centre. Right up to her last moments, the staff ensured Dolly was comfortable, pain free and received great love and compassion from them.

Dolly was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, son Gary, husband Ralph, and great-grandson Ethan.

She leaves to mourn her children: Doug (Carolyn) Vigen, Brenda (Glenn) Donohue, Cheryl Vigen (Dave), Terry Vigen and Mike Vigen; as well as twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

At Dolly’s request, there will be no funeral service held, but family and friends are invited to attend her interment at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave. and 112 St.) on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association (100 12220 Stony Plain Rd, Edmonton, AB T5N 3Y4), or to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).
